programs's Issues

Installer guideline

With the only other alternative being Lutris installers, which honestly are the result of constant monkey patching and hard to implement outside of lutris, I feel it is important to create a well designed and documented format

Logos 9 Bible Software

Using the Flatpak, I had a bear of a time trying to get .NET installed with a fresh bottle.

Eventually I got it installed, then ran the Logos installer which apparently succeeded. After launch the Logos splash screen is visible but never clears. The output from the console is creating thousands of lines of this message:

info: OpenVR: could not open registry key, status 2
info: OpenVR: Failed to locate module
info: Game: Logos.exe
info: DXVK: v1.10.1
info: Built-in extension providers:
info: Win32 WSI
info: OpenVR
info: OpenXR

Folder Suggestion Structure

Put all programs and games in the same folder (like /Programs/) and create a new folder inside of this path to store all asset of each program (/Programs/steam/, /Programs/epicgames/), each program folder must have a /assets/ folder to store icons and others files.

In the root of the folder must have a Info.yml file which includes all configurations with two new fields:

  • Category (to identify what type of program is, like Game, Audio, Productivity, etc...)
  • Version (the current version of the program)
Name: amazonmusic
Description: The official Amazon Music Desktop app.
Category: Audio
Version: 1.0.02.3.4
Grade: Silver

I think that this way is more efficient and allows store additional scripts and assets to run a program (like a Prelaunch script of lutris)

Blizzard Battle.net Installer

Blizzard Battle.net launcher unable or install from Installers

Description

I wanted to try out the Battle.net Installer provided with Bottles. However, it took a long while to not actually install, and then not launch again. I tried to run it once previously, got the same result. I can however, download and install Battle.net Launcher manually with the defaults included in a bottle setup.

Epic Games Store Installer

Hi,

I'm trying out the Epic Game Store Installer. Everything installs but when I try to run Epic Game Store nothing happens. I clicked on the triple dots next to it and browse path. The Binaries folder open in file manager but the EpicGamesLauncher.exe is in the Win32 folder.

I looked at the epicgamestore.yml and the path is written for the executable.
Executable:
name: Epic Games Store
icon: epicgamestore.svg
file: EpicGamesLauncher.exe
path: Program Files (x86)/Epic Games/Launcher/Portal/Binaries/Win32
arguments: -opengl -SkipBuildPatchPrereq

I think it might need a / at the end of Win32.
path: Program Files (x86)/Epic Games/Launcher/Portal/Binaries/Win32/

Thanks

[Feedback] Possible missing dependencies in Epic Games Store installer

I have tried to install the epicgames store through the installers provided and it has always gotten stuck on one or the other step and never completes. I looked at the manifest and thought of installing it manually. I ran the msi in the bottle and installed it, then installed the dependencies specified in the manifest. At this point when I try to launch the store it gave this error: SU-PQR1603. Checking on the epic support page, it suggested to install VC Redist 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015 which was easily available in bottles.

After installing it, surprise it just worked! There was no problems in using the store and playing games. BONUS: The installer for Epic Online Services (Installed through the store) required .NET Framework 3.5 and installed with no problems after the dependency was met.

Checksum of OriginSetup.exe changed

Hi,

I tried to install Origin using the built-in installer. This is what appeared on the terminal:

Seems like the checksum of the setup file changed.

Lutris install scripts are availible on Lutris website. After installing dependencies the game throws an error that .NET Framework is missing, but it is installed.

Do you have any idea?

Issue, app that loads a webpage not working

"bottles" created with bottles have issues with apps that do webpages loading.

create a new custom ""32-bit"" bottle, runner for me is sys wine 7.2 or cafe 7.2, doesn't matter.

preferences:
Windows 7
virtual desktop 1600x900

Press "task manager" and file -> new task -> C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
www.winehq.org does not open.

probably because of this ?
0114:err:ole:apartment_add_dll couldn't load in-process dll L"C:\windows\system32\mshtml.dll"

Real world example:

iexplorer and the app i'm trying to run using bottles:

Now using wine directly on the same prefix:

Any suggestions ??

Bottles was installed from Arch aur.

I believe that the issue has something to do with capturing console output, since the program fails to start in normal Wine if I run it from a terminal.

Can't update EA App to latest version

I play Fifa 22 using the "EA App" in Bottles.

Last night the EA App wanted me to restart to perform an update. When I press the restart button in the EA App, seems to install the update and seems to stop correctly. A terminal window opens with the title "EADestager.exe". It dissapears after 5 seconds. But then EA App doesn't restart. When I start it manually afterwards, the app isn't updated and suggests me to update again. The problem: It doesn't get updated.

I'm on PopOS (latest - 21.10) using an Nvidia RTX2080 with correct drivers.

[EA App] Help Needed: How to install on Bottles?

EA App (previously known as EA Desktop) is the replacement for Origin.

  1. The installer file is here: https://www.ea.com/ea-app-beta
  2. According to this report, it works on plain Wine: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=40425
  3. According to this Lutris script, it works in Lutris without any special techniques needed: https://lutris.net/games/install/29855/view

Tried it on Caffe 7.0 and 6.23 without any success. The GUI version just shows a giant exclamation mark (warning symbol). The /silent mode doesn't install anything either.

If anyone figures it out, please post here so we can make an installer script for it.

[Installers] Step for "run command"?

I'm currently playing around with the installer scripts and sorely miss a step to run a script.
I imagine installers being really handy when apps have weird dependencies or are tricky to get running, so being able to run some script to for instance modify configuration files within the game would be incredibly handy.

Sorry if this is already in the pipeline!

Epic Games Store instantly crashes, am I missing something?

Epic Games Store instantly crashes.

I have freshly installed flatpak Bottles with a Gaming bottle.

Do I need to have anything specific installed for Bottles to run properly? I cannot find any information. I installed Wine from Gnome Software, but I've no idea whether I have to do anything else.

I'm on Zorin OS.

I couldn't find anything anywhere about what exactly Bottles needs to run correctly. This is my first experience with Bottles. :(

Steam not functional by default, if Steam Guard is enabled

If you have an account with Steam Guard enabled, Steam just hangs on login.

So far - it appears to be possible to work around this by adding -tcp to the launcher shortcut, but it is unclear what impact this has elsewhere.

If we do have to go with -tcp, the steam:// protocol handler would also need to be patched in the registry otherwise someone using this could launch Steam without said options: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Talk:Steam_browser_protocol

[BUG] GOG Galaxy installer required dotnet40 too

While trying to install GOG Galaxy on fresh bottle got a lot of error:

0450:err:imagehlp:BindImageEx Import "C:\\windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v4.0.30319\\" was not found.

And some others

That's not a problem to end installation, but can be solved with just installed dotnet40

Add Adobe Digital Editions Installer

ADE is a program necessary to access DRM-protected ebooks from many retailers, and it is not available on Linux natively. I have tried to use Bottles to install it but have repeatedly encountered errors with dependencies that I can't figure out, as someone with very little experience with Windows. It would be really helpful if someone who figures out the right formula to share this as an installer. Thanks so much in advance!

How to test Installer?

Hello.

I'm very excited about Installer feature of Bottles, and I'd like to create installer for a program.
But how do I test Installer before pushing it into this repo?
Is there a way to point Bottles to a .yml file on my computer?

[Epic Games] Esync failed to open shared memory file

On system mode: 01e0:err:esync:esync_init Server is running with WINEESYNC but this process is not, please enable WINEESYNC or restart wineserver.

On esync mode: 01f8:err:esync:esync_init Failed to open esync shared memory file; make sure no stale wineserver instances are running without WINEESYNC.

This may be a bottles issue in general? If so I can move it. This is in flatpak.

[BUG] Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV & EFLC): constant, cyclic visual artifacts during cutscenes & gameplay

Describe the bug
Constant, cyclic visual artifacts during gameplay, like geometrical shimmering.

Installation

  • Method: flatpak
  • Version 2022.2.14-trento

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Install GTA IV from DVD (using the Complete Edition pack here)
  2. Install dependencies: vcrun2005, vcrun2008, vcrun2010, vcrun2012, dotnet35sp1 or dotnet48
  3. Set caffe-7.0 as executor under Preferences (just to use a stable version, Proton and lutris do work as well)
  4. Run game using LaunchGTAIV or LaunchEFLC
  5. See that from the intro to gameplay, there are cyclic and constant visual artifacts, no matter what wine runtime is used (caffe, Proton or lutris).

Expected behavior
No visual artifacts should be visible, as if run from PlayOnLinux or Lutris.

[Feat] Some browsers?

I know it would be dumb but for some features I need to install a browser on wine, and it would be interesting to have the feat inside this repository

[Request]: Add installer support for Riot and Garena League of Legends

Tell us the problem or your need

League of Legends runs smooth in linux. recently Glorious eggroll released a ge-lol build which fixes long time loading. It would be very helpful if you include Garena and Riot launcher League of Legends in Bottles. It will save us lots of time.
visit r/leagueoflinux for more information.

Describe the solution you'd like

One click installer for Garena League of Legends and Riot League of Legends.

[Origin] New hash for installer

The OriginSetup.exe download has a new hash, so the installer script fails. New hash is e153c23459dc03d033b00b1c2620c5b0.

Automatically refresh Programs after using Installer

After installing Epic Games Launcher, I went to the Programs tab. It was empty.

I clicked the Refresh icon and the launcher appeared.

For better user-experience, should trigger a refresh after any Installer script is used. :)

EA Launcher and Origin not installing

The install fails due to dependencies, checked on terminal and I can see it downloads firefox, then renames the .exe file as a .7z but it won't unzip it

[Epic Games] EGS doesn't work in Bottles anymore

I'm in the Bottles Flatpak and enabled experimental Installers.

Clicked on Epic Games Store.

I got a Wine popup saying something like "wine-mono not found, we recommend your distribution's version, but we can install an internal version. Install?"

I clicked Install.

Then it said "Checksum failed. Aborting install of corrupt package" or something.

I dunno what could have caused this. Perhaps Bottles is pointing to an outdated version of dotnet installers?

[Feature Request] Adobe Creative Cloud support

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Thousands of frontend developers have been somewhat forced to use macOS historically if their workplace requires Photoshop, If bottles could support Creative Cloud it would really be a big deal in the community,

Describe the solution you'd like An install of course... I guess a full "Design" environment

Describe alternatives you've considered A clear and concise description of any alternative solutions or features you've considered. It looks like there was work in this area but they hit a wall, I think bottles dependencies manager is probably what was missing? I don't 100% understand the issue, I think the author was referencing a native windows webview or something thats missing?

ere.

[Request] Far Cry 6 game settings file for installer manifest or something like that~

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I talked about this issue with one of you in Twitter. He said i need to add Far Cry 6 setting file as issue to here for updating installer manifest.

Describe the solution you'd like
I really don't know what it is supposed to be. He just said that...
