generic-seeder's Issues

App does not open port 53

Hello team-exor,
My server(ubuntu 18.04) is running on aws ec2, I successfully compile and run dnsseed app with command:
sudo ./dnsseed -h dnsseed01.mycoin.org -n vps01. mycoin.org -a 54.255.103.80

dnsseed app can find my nodes with log:
[21-07-18 17:39:58] 3/3 available (3 tried in 265s, 0 new, 0 active), 0 banned; 0 DNS requests, 0 db queries

but when I try to get nodes's address with command:
nslookup dnsseed01. mycoin.org

the return body only show address of my dnsseed sever
`Server: 10.0.0.2
Address: 10.0.0.2#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: dnsseed01. mycoin.org
Address: 54.255.103.80`

when I try to show opened ports of my dnsseed sever, I notified that port 53 is not opened (dnsseed app is still running)

Please help me with this issue

Prevent delete BAD Nodes from dnsseed.dump

Is there a possibilty to prevent the Seeder that bad Nodes was deleted in dnsseed.dump or write them to another Log? Try to create a networkmap and many Fullnodes are only online for a couple of hours a day or week, but i want to count this, too.

Need a little hint where i can find this in the code.

caddr_time_version doesnt exist in > 0.21

I'm using a fork of 0.21 and it's not working - it sees my host but calls it invalid. I suspect caddr_time_version because this no longer exists in 0.21 Still debugging.

Not binding on port 53 with IPv4

Running on Ubuntu 20.04 as root.
The initial install worked fine but was biding to port 53 on IPv6 only. We don't use IPv6 at all, only IPv4. As a workaround, I have disabled IPv6 on my VPS via GRUB.
When starting the seeder now it doesn't bind to port 53 at all, seems to be running alright but certainly is not listening on port 53.
Confirmed this again by re-enabling IPv6 (default) in grub and rebooting. Once again it's only binding to IPv6 even though I have specified the IPv4 address.
Command I'm running is;
./dnsseed -a 107.173.82.10 -h dnsseed2.bitcreds.org -n 107.173.82.10 -m [email protected]

nslookup not obtaining A records

Do i need to do something extra if cloudfire is hosting the domain i'm trying to host and populate?

i've tied both with local DNS and also uploaded to Cloudfire.

The CF upload works and it's sending x9 records to cloudfire DNS but it's they arn't being found by nslookup or https://www.whatsmydns.net/

n/n available, but seeder not working

Hi, I'm trying to make a seeder of my own in Bitcoin regtest mode.

I followed your guides in Local DNS Server Setup, and the seeder seems to work well; it tracked all n nodes in my regtest network and marked n/n available (All the nodes were well listed in dnsseed.dump).

However, when I try to make a new node to join the network and fetch the address from this seeder, it doesn't work. The A record of the nameserver also doesn't appears in whatsmydns or nslookup.

What could be a problem here?

Seeder see only nodes at config

Hello, thank you for your seeder and hard work!

I'm experiencing an issue where the seeder cannot independently find nodes; it only detects and validates nodes added to settings.conf. For instance, with seed_1-seed_7, it shows 2/7 (correctly identifying 2 out of the 7 nodes, but unable to find the others—I know at least 1 more is online). Before adding seed_7, it displayed 1/6...

All nodes are in sync (the 3 that I'm aware of). Could this be due to daemon incompatibility with your seeder?

Additionally, I have a suggestion regarding -prune mode nodes. Do you know if they can contribute to the network by providing access to download blocks they know and reporting known peers to the seeder?

Thanks again for your assistance!
