cryptozoology's Introduction

cryptozoology

Travis CI

Crowdsourcing a directory of cryptids and their range maps.

Contributing

Please help build this directory! You can contribute by editing existing listings or creating new ones, then submitting a pull request.

Each individual cryptid is represented by a GeoJSON file.

To create a new cryptid, first reserve a unique integer for the filename using https://www.brooklynintegers.com/create/

Then create a GeoJSON file based on a previous example. We suggest editing it using the free online tool http://geojson.io/

Once you are done, submit a pull request to this repository!

cryptozoology's Issues

Create a "buffered" version of the geometry

The lake geometries - Bessie and Nessie - have a problem. Part of the joy of this project is the API which tells you if you are likely to see a beastie - but you won't ever get told about them unless you are actually out in a boat on the lake.

So... I'm going to add a new column, geometry_buffered, which stores the polygon with a 5 mile buffer on it. Then the API can work against that column instead and you'll get introduced to lake monsters if you are within 5 miles of their lakes.

Travis tests should pass for pull requests

Right now Travis is failing on pull requests because it's trying to deploy code to Now and doesn't have the token.

Travis should still attempt to build the database for pull requests (and fail if that script throws an exception).
