I'm really, really sorry about asking this, but it's been AGES since I properly used GitHub for anything other than feature requests and error reporting, so I've forgotten the process of getting the update you mentioned onto my local Mac drive. Since the ZIP of the branch doesn't contain the .app file, I'm a bit stuck.

(I know it's terrible, sounds like I'll be spending my next batch of free time re-learning GitHub)

I haven't tried High Sierra yet but I suspect from your log that this is a bug in the High Sierra beta that Apple will eventually fix on their end. It's crashing trying to check for updates, but because the last non-beta release of MP3Gain Express was made before "App transport security" was a thing and I don't use that macOS is supposed to revert to the previous behavior for older apps. Instead of using the old behavior like Sierra does it just crashes.

The 2.0 beta build that I released last month is newer, knows about the security change, and I'm guessing it probably won't crash. Let me know if I'm wrong. I was hoping to release the final version 2 sometime this month, but I'll make sure to test High Sierra before I do.

Version 2.0 is now released. I've confirmed that it launches on High Sierra beta 1.
