Open in Web Editor NEWCaesar ciphers are a simple form of substitution ciphers in which each letter in the original text is replaced by a letter some fixed number of positions down the alphabet. Such a fixed number is referred to as the key. Obviously, it is easy to perform, but also easy to crack - just try out all 25 keys. A better version of substitution ciphers is to use a word as the key, rather than a number.
