photonfilevalidator's Issues

Documentation on "Convert"

I am impressed by the software you made.

I am making some precision parts (planetary gear) and have discovered that the LCD printer makes parts two large by ~.1mm in XY direction.

I am looking for a way to decrease the edge pixel(s) of each layer to compensate for the overspray error of the light. I am hoping the matix in the convert option of your software will give me this ability to remove edge pixels.

Improvement sugestions

陳彦廷 loving this, just saved me from a failed print with unsupported island.
Love the up and down shortcut.

Feedback

  • Slider for layer flip
  • Zoom in / out function. maybe left and right keys or center mouse wheel
  • User set Onion Skinnning > See light underlay image of the models silhouette, above the support raft. this will be tricky to implement without some user input, maybe specify the layers to combine into a single image. This just helps to identify which part of the model islands are unsupported.

Great Job!

Add play feature - Feature Request

Greetings Master

Would be great if you could add a play and play speed button to the Validator so we could play the sequence as a movie.

Jpg / PDF (/Gerber) importer... FEATURE REQUEST

Besides printing, the photonics printer seem great for exposing PCB for DIY PCB etching :)
They are effectifly a UV display which eliminate the need for transfer foils and projector foils with a uv exposure bed.

Unfortunatly there is no good way of turning the common "gerber" file formats into stl.
However, if I could only insert a single image (from a 1:1 pdf or a 1:1 jpg) exposing would get really easy.

False window location and no title bar after launching in multi-display environment

Hello,

after launching the Validator, the main window has a false position, if the user uses a multi-display environment.

The window is positioned in the middle between the two displays on desktop. Also the title bar of the window is missing then.

The user has to resize the window, to make the title bar visible. After that the user is able to move the main window.

See attached screenshots.

Regard
Artur

Stuck at "Complete"

When loading a file into the Photon File Validator it will do an initial layer count and stop at complete but never actually scan the layers looking for islands? I have had other files of similar size work but others not. (See dropbox link below)

Initial settings:
Chitubox 1.4
.02 Layer Height
12s Layer Exposure
7 Bottom Laters
60s BL Exposure
AA x4

V3 turned AA off.
V4 was sliced in Anycubic Slicer 1.3.6 and works.

feature request - add layer height in mm

I would like to see a simple height readout next the the layer number if possible.
This will be a huge help when identifying problem areas when using 3rd party software that can identify layers using height. IE Flashpoint has a layer slider based on height.

.PHZ support

HI, will the program support the .PHZ file extension.
I have a Phrozen sonic mini and it uses that extension.

Pixel Changes do nothing ?

If i check the "fixed" file in chitubox it doesn't show any changes (automated or manual). Is this just a visualisation Problem by Chitubox or are the pixels not "there"

Request support for new PhotonS files

Can we get support for the new PhotonS files, I tried just renaming the file to Photon and putting it through the program but the validator says the file is corrupt. so they must have made some sort of change to it.

An Improvement, Not an Issue

Great Tool! Thanks. If you need experienced Certified Java Developers to give a hand, let me know.
Place a Hint to "Press Shift Key" as you click to see the AA layers, somewhere noticeable.
Otherwise that function becomes unnoticeable.

Allow validation interrupt by loading new file

At the moment the software opens and you can start working on it.

but if you have loaded the wrong file and it is a big file 2k layers and above you are stuck waiting for the validation to end or must force close the software before you can open another file.

For me the best solution would be keep load button active. If the user pressed it while a file was being validated, warn user that trying to load a new file will cancel the current validation and close current file.
If user says yes then the validation is canceled file is closed and user is taken to load selection.

If user cancel load he returns to a screen similar to the one that he gets when loading the sw the first time with no loaded files in memory.

Windows Scaling

On Windows, with a high resolution screen that is scaled at greater than 100%, PhotonFileValidator (java installer) ignores the Windows display scaling, making it too small to be usable. See attached screenshot of the PhotonFileValidator in front of this bug report. The Windows display scaling is set at 200% in the screenshot.

Scaling Error

I don't see AA pixels in Windows version 2 preview

The UI shows that the file contains AA data, but that data is not shown in the pixel editor/preview window, like the demo (which looks like Mac OSX) indicates it should.

Does the AA data actually make it to the exported file?

Request for Estimated Resin Cost to Print

The Photon File Validator does an admirable job of estimated print time and print volume (time is more accurate than the slicer!!). It would be cool to have an option to put in how much a bottle of resin was, the volume of resin in that bottle and then have it estimate the cost to print. I currently do this math based on the volume estimates that the validator provides.

.pw0 Photon Zero Support

It would be great if the PhotoFileValidator could support the newly released Photon Zero.

Thanks a lot!

Very fine support structures

Hi,

First of all: Thank you for creating this very useful software!

because our company needs a lot of functional 3D printed prototypes I was playing around with different slicers and support structures. My problem was: The usual support structures always left ugly marks on my models when I removed them (or even damaged my model). So I implemented my own support structure algorithm. It consists of a large number of regularly spaced support structures that contact the model only with a few pixels (4 x 4 pixels at the moment, at a distance of 0.6 mm). That way the structures can be removed more easily and they leave only a very fine, regular dot-pattern on the model. I can use a brush to remove the rest of the supports and am left with a very clean looking model (before post-curing). Check this picture to see the underside of the model on the left side and the support structures on the right side. The model in the picture is 38 mm x 17 mm in size.

I currently implemented this functionality in the PhotonFileValidator, but am aware, that this might not be the ideal place/project. Basically I did so, because I could do it in Java and it seemed easy. So my question is: Would this be something that could be useful (and fit) in one of the Photonster projects?

I was contemplating publishing this feature in some form, because I think this might be useful for other people. I guess it would be quite some work for me to port it to the right project and document the usage accordingly. So that is why I'm trying to find the right place first and then decide if I want to do the work and create a pull request.

Best,

Sam

The program won't open in windows 8.1

Hello, the program doesn't run on my computer, my OS is windows 8.1.
When I double click on the shortcut, I get the icon indicating that it is running on the toolbar, but it does not open on the desktop.

thanks

Change toolbar logo - minor cosmetic fix

On windows logo is showing up as blue on the taskbar.

If there is any way to change this to display it either in white or with a white bkg with rouded corners and the logo in black it would be awsome. I like the b/w version of the logo it is simpler and more related to the photon at the moment.

Maybe when we get greyscale hability in the files we think of a new version :P

Add Revalidate Button!

Add a button to revalidate a sliced file.

Sometimes after manually fixing the islands new islands are created on the above the layers. It would be great if we could recheck the file without having to save and reload

No photon S support?

juts download 1.6 chitubox and there photon didn't reconice the photon Stl. Some tips please?

AA Settings

Hello , First of all Thanks for this great tool.
Its not an Issue,
but i think we can talk a bit more about it.

My gues is that the 5x AA settings messing up the dimensions more than the 3x settings.
Also the print comes out more sticky,( As the resin at the edges dont get cured) for full time.

But that can be an advance for hiding the layer lines as the semi-hardend resin sticks to the print and get postcured after wards , and giving a more even surface.

But i think the 5X blur settings are to wide, messing up the dimensions and hardening to much?

I want to talk a bit about finding the right settings.

I think one pixel is 0,05mm(0,047+space) .
So when u do 4x AA, and have a layer Height of 0.0125 you end up with kind of even blocks 0.0125 z * 0.0125 xy( 0.05mm pixel/4xAA=0.0125 )

2XAA for 0.025mm Layer Height.
Giving you an even resolution and even surface in xyz.

I would say go for 16x AA for max quality.
But i think thats to much of nearly cured resin, so i think dont go higher than 8x times.

Which Anti Alias Method do you prefer ? Gaussian, Blur, Smooth? 2x 4x 8x 16x? 3x 5x?

It seems like the AA function from Chitubox using the Smooth method.
Also the slices fast played after each other looking like they retain best dimmensions with the Smooth Method.

I like to use formware 3d for slicing than convert to AA. With the PhotonFileValidator.
As Chitubox giving me bad slicing results.(Not accurate somehow downsampled)

Greetings

Feature Request: See Pixels from Layer below

Often I have slices (specialy with Meshmixer) that got supports with a single Layer missing. If I could toggle switch the view to see the current and the Layer below (in like a grey color). That way you can see where to put supported pixels even before you paint them.

Files stuck at loading

When I open some files (typically larger files that were fairly full plates in the x and y dimensions sliced at .02 height), the validator gets stuck at "Loading file" and never actually gets to the point at which I can preview the layers or search for islands.

Mouse Pointer Offset

Since I updated to the latest version I have a lot of trouble with the pointer when I try to use swap I have to hit the upper left corner of each pixel for it to work. I can no longer just hit the middle of the pixel and it's rather annoying I must say. Hopefully its not to hard to remedy :)

File Loading Progress

As AA is now enabled for .photon file slicing the size of files has grown exponentially.

Would it be possible to add a progress count/% of loading and then initial processing?

PhotonFileValidator streches design

I tried both ChiTuBox and ANYCUBIC Photon Slicer. in ChiTuBox I chose the right printer and yet Photon File Validator jre shows the design stretched.

FileValidator won't open in Win10.

Hello,

I wouldl ike to ask for a short support. I downloaded the
"win-photonfilevalidator-2.0 (2)" file. Installed and started.

However the program started and it is showned on the tray, but the window not appear on the screen.
Do you know what I did wrong?

Thank you

Not Scanning Layers

I'm having an issue with Validator not scanning the file at all.
It just says Complete... as soon as it loads the file.
I can scroll through the layers no problem but it's simply not scanning the layers.
I slice in Chitubox to *.photon.
I've tried redownloading the 2.0 version of Validator but it makes no difference.
I'm using Chitubox 1.4.
I thought it might be due to file size but even smaller files give me the same result.
It's not every time but more often than not I can no longer scan with Validator.
Edit: Tried slicing a file in Anycubic Photon Slicer that wasn't working after slicing in Chitubox and it scanned the layers fine.
