stayinghomeclub's Introduction

Who's staying home because of COVID-19?

This is a running list of companies that are taking steps to address the spread of COVID-19. Pull requests gratefully accepted, especially around design or data formatting or correctness. If you are a journalist and would like to speak to someone about the list, email [email protected]. View the live website here: stayinghome.club.

How do I add my company?

The short version is: the website is generated from files in the _data directory. Add the details of your company by mimicking what others have done, and create a PR. If you're not familiar with Git or Pull Requests, here are the steps. You will need a Github account.

  1. Make sure you're editing the main repository which hosts the website. It is here on Github: https://github.com/phildini/stayinghomeclub.

  2. You will need to create a YML file in the companies directory. Navigate there, and click the "Create new file" button. Here's a direct link to the Create page.

Or, if you're just updating an existing entry, click on it, then hit the "Edit" button.

  3. Give the file a name, something like google.yml or envato.yml or my-awesome-company.yml or ing.yml, no fancy or uppercase characters, and be sure to end it with .yml. Add the details about your company in this format:

    name: Your company name
    wfh: Strongly Encouraged
    travel: Restricted
    visitors: Restricted
    events: Restricted
    last_update: 2020-03-13
  4. Click "Propose File Change", the big green button at the bottom of the page.

  5. This will take you to a page where you can click "Create pull request". Once you do that, one of the maintainers of the website will attend to your update ASAP.

  6. Thank you for helping us keep this site up-to-date! πŸ™

For developers

You may want to run the site locally, to see what it looks like while you're making changes. A full tutorial is out of scope here, but these are the basic steps. We assume you know a little bit of Ruby.

First, you'll need Ruby Bundler, which manages this project's dependencies.

gem install bundler -v 2.1.4

Now, install the required Gems.

bundle install

When that's done, run the development server.

bundle exec jekyll serve

Jekyll will print a URL where you can see your local version running, as it would on the web. Usually that's http://127.0.0.1:4000/.

stayinghomeclub's Issues

Suggestion: Interviews column

Would it be useful to include a column for status of "Interview" processes, mentioning if they are now:
postponed, done completely online, online for X or Y modules and onsite for Z module, unchanged, etc. ?
This could potentially help companies contact each other and exchange info about how they're doing it, and inform [prospect] candidates about their [future] applications.

Seagate Technology LLC current policy

I can't make a pull request. Just letting you know that Seagate Technology LLC in the United States (particularly headquarters in Cupertino and prototyping facility in Fremont) is allowing (not requiring) employees to work from home, and restricts travel.

Create a real readme?

Now that we're using a YAML data source, the readme page is a template and looks really weird. Can Jekyll be configured to use a page other than Readme.md? Then we can put a real readme file with information/instructions.

Salesforce San Francisco

Salesforce employees in San Francisco have been told to work from home until 31 March 2020, or until they are advised when to return. Travel restrictions are in place. All meetings and VTO involving more than 50 people are postponed until further notice. The all-hands meetings have been changed to teleconferences or streaming events.

Zadara Storage

Hello - Zadara Storage we are a Global data storage company with 120 employees throughout the US, Israel, UK, India.

Another List Source: Academic Conferences Cancellations

There is an ongoing list for Academic Conferences that are cancelled or postponed that has good sources linked, several of these conferences fall under "tech" as well and would be good additions to this list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O3wnaFYSZCgY3Ih4yDw3EIH2SC_-vjhyHwrCQSy0J7M/htmlview?fbclid=IwAR3Z5VxuKicyB5h0dAIRhU5TtZq78dzFBZ45f8G7fI1sBhWEyFIj5rGibME

If anyone has the time to pull some of the relevant events into the stayinghomeclub repo that would be great.

Apple

Apple last night and this morning sent out an email "encouraging" employees who can work from home to do so.

Suggestion: Country Organization for Events

It would be beneficial for conference decision makers to separate entries by country and date. The page does not answer the question whether other conferences in my area are cancelling events.

Typical size of the conference would also be useful if published.

Industry Gaming

NEWS: E3 2020 CANCELLED DUE TO GROWING CONCERNS OVER COVID-19 VIRUS
After careful consultation with our member companies regarding the health and safety of everyone in our industry – our fans, our employees, our exhibitors, and our longtime E3 partners – we have made the difficult decision to cancel E3 2020, scheduled for June 9-11 in Los Angeles.

Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.

Our team will be reaching out directly to exhibitors and attendees with information about providing full refunds.

We are also exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020. Updates will be shared on E3Expo.com.

We thank everyone who shared their views on reimagining E3 this year. We look forward to bringing you E3 2021 as a reimagined event that brings fans, media, and the industry together in a showcase that celebrates the global video game industry.

Cisco

Just received email from CEO "activate a mandatory work from home policy for certain locations"

Pls add DITTO in Oakland to your list.

Hello,

Hello,
My CEO received your name and the stayathomeclub list through LeadersinTech.org. We were encouraged to add our name to your list so our action can help influence others. DITTO is a 47 person SaaS company in Oakland. We told employees Thursday 3/5/20 that WFH is effective immediately.

Info required for stayinghomeclub:

  • Company - DITTO
  • WFH - Required
  • Travel - Restricted
  • Visitors - Restricted
  • Events - Restricted

Pls let me know if you require additional info and thanks for putting together this list. It's great to see what other companies are doing

Thank you,
Steve Chin

Verizon Media

Employees have been informed via email from our CEO that there are travel restrictions in place as well as restrictions on visitors & events. WFH is only required for the following offices: Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and Italy.

All other Verizon Media offices are not required to work from home, yet.

Suggestion: Date Organization for Events

The list of events is inevitably going to get larger so I suggest that the events get organized by date of event, at least, by month for added visability. And events without clear dates can make it into a general 2020 category.

Something like:

2020 ----
March ---

  • event canceled
  • event canceled

April ---

  • event canceled
  • event canceled

Open Source Helps!

Thanks for your work to help the people in need! Your site has been added! I currently maintain the OpenSourceWuhan page, which collects all open source projects related to COVID-19, including maps, data, news, api, analysis, medical and supply information, etc. Please share to anyone who might need the information in the list, or will possibly contribute to some of those projects. You are also welcome to recommend more projects.

Cheers!

WE made the announcement on slack on Monday.

Sources Formatting Suggestion

Instead of having the sources be linked out on the company name, I believe it would make more sense to make another column and have Wikipedia-esque sources in the form of [1][2][3] etc.

It's inevitable that there will be several sources, especially with geo-specific WFH regulations.

KWAN guidelines

Hi there, i would like to contribute to my company COVID-19 recommendations. We're a IT recruitment company in Portugal and have around 200 employees.

Slido disappeared

Hey,

First of all thanks for doing this.
I noticed that Slido disappeared despite that you've merged my pull req yesterday and it was added shortly after. Am I supposed to resubmit my pull request using yml - now when it is reworked or you are on it and will take care?
Thx!
