omnigui's Introduction

A cross-platform GUI framework from scratch just to learn.... that is already AWESOME!

Xamarin Forms is OK, but has too many limitations

What about having a Presentation Framework that:

  • Loads the UI from the same XAML for every platform?
  • It looks exactly the same in every platform?

OmniGUI is the answer

Some facts

  • You can use OmniGUI inside you Xamarin Forms/Native project because OmniGUI renders inside a view, like any other control :)
  • OmniGUI's XAML looks similar to WPF/UWP/Silverlight
  • Uses Reactive Programming. Be Reactive, my friend.
  • MVVM-ready. The controls in each platform have BindingContext (DataContext) to attach to your ViewModels and use Bindings
  • It currently runs on
    • Windows Desktop
    • Android
    • iOS
    • Universal Windows Platform
    • Linux
    • more platforms with a few touches :)

omnigui's Issues

NuGet Package?

I'm not seeing a NuGet package for this, is it under a different name?

Animations

Don't really know if animations are doable/abstract-able with all platforms (Canvas makes me think it could be difficult), but have you thought integrating animations to the framework ?

Love your project, I started similar approaches many times, and it could be a great solution for making enterprise applications! ๐Ÿ‘

OmniGUI for Unity3d

I would like to make a renderer for Unity3d. There are various things I would need to do to make sure it's possible such as ensuring it can run in the unity environment.
However, I'd like to know where I could start if I wanted to implement the rendering/hosting portion?

License is missing for the project.

If I understand it correctly nobody can use your code without your permission when you do not have a specific license attached (see no license).
Are you planning to change licensing or is it staying that way?

WOW YOU REALLY ARE SUPER, @SuperJMN!! :) :) :)

WOWWWW.... this is a ping-ping to your pings at microsoft/xaml-standard#20 (comment) and microsoft/xaml-standard#193 (comment) and thought I would post in here instead as it tends to get a little stuffy in there. ๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿ˜†

I've also sent out a little ping to the Create a Ubiquitous .NET Client Application Development Model vote as that has turned into a semi-news hub of .NET client models (feel free to post a note there too if you feel so inclined).

So what's the scoop yo? Totally doing your own thing here? I am in complete agreement with your approach, of course. As you know, a consistent user experience is what I consider a necessary ubiquitous quality and one that Xamarin.Forms -- as impressive as it is -- takes a ๐Ÿ’ฉ all over, LOL.

How does this square with Avalonia? Supplements it? Totally your own thing now? Details please. :) :) :)

(Also, @birbilis... looks like ANOTHER entry for my list of client models. Sigh. Gotta brush the dust off that thing. ๐Ÿค•)
