emojiaddin's Introduction

Emoji for Outlook and Thunderbird

Adds an emoji task pane to Outlook (desktop and web) and Mozilla Thunderbird using the awesome JoyPixels (fka EmojiOne) emoji set. Features:

  • History
  • Categories
  • Select preferred skin tone
  • Search based on names and keywords
  • Works for HTML and text only emails
  • Chat (Thunderbird only)

Installation

Outlook

Go to the add-in's page in the Office Store and click the Add button. Once you have added the add-in to your online account it will automatically be available from within Outlook Desktop also. If Outlook Desktop is open when you add the add-in online, you need to close and re-open Outlook Desktop for the add-in to become available there.

The add-in works only with Exchange, Office 365, and Outlook.com account types, not IMAP or POP accounts. This is a limitation of Outlook add-ins in general. From the documentation:

The client must be connected to an Exchange server or Office 365 using a direct connection. When configuring the client, the user must choose an Exchange, Office 365, or Outlook.com account type. If the client is configured to connect with POP3 or IMAP, add-ins will not load.

If you have both types of accounts configured, you can write an email using the Exchange-based account, then switch to the IMAP/POP account before sending by using the "From:" dropdown.

Thunderbird

In Thunderbird, go to Tools โ†’ Add-ons โ†’ Extensions and search for "Emoji" in the search box in the upper right-hand corner. In the result list, click Install on the right side.

You can also download the add-on from its detail page at Mozilla and then install using the instructions here.

Once you have installed the add-on and restarted Thunderbird, the add-on will be available from the View menu when you write a message. The toolbar button won't be visible by default, but you can add it to the toolbar by customizing the toolbar.

emojiaddin's Issues

Emoji 1.68.4 does not work on TB 78.2.2

Thunderbird 78.2.2

Hello Michael,

I've updated TB to the last release 78.2.2

Emoji version 1.68.4 isn't displayed anymore (but "active" in the options).

Maybe an update is planned for your addon?

I love Emoji! ๐Ÿฅฐ
Thank you very much.

Emojis are overlapping on a specific user's machine

Hello!

I am reporting this on behalf of a user whose emojis in this add-in are large and overlapping. They look like this:

emojis

I have tried repairing Office, reinstalling it, and replacing the machine. I have attempted to remove the add-in, close out of Outlook, and load it as administrator but this still occurs. It is not a zoom issue, as zooming out or resizing the window still has some overlap. The emojis function technically, it is just very difficult to end up with the one that you want because you don't know which you're clicking on.

Not working: Emojis Add-in for Microsoft Outlook 2016 MSO 64-bit

I have just installed the Emojis Add-in for Microsoft Outlook 2016 MSO 64-bit (desktop). (Emojis version 1.0.0.3 Created by: UpdateStar GmbH)

After I launch the app in a new email, I should be able to select a category of emojis, but all the categories are grayed out; when I try to click on a category (i.e., Smileys & People), it doesn't show me any emojis to choose from.

What can I do to be able to use this add-in?

Thank you,

Mindy Scherzinger

No release to download

While #1 mentions the Outlook add-in can be obtained here, without a Microsoft account it cannot be obtained. Offering an alternate release (as described here)to download directly here would therefore be most helpful.

Emoji Size Changes

Hello:

I'm not sure if this qualifies as an issue or not, but I wanted to ask you about it anyway to see if you might have some idea about how to fix it.

When I insert emojis in my emails, I see them as the correct size and they're still displayed as the correct size in my sent items. However, when someone receives my email, the emoji looks HUGE.

This is what I see in my sent items:

This is what the email looks like on the other person's screen:

Is there a way to change the code on my end to force the formatting at a certain image size? I love your add-on, but I hope that there's a way to not look like I'm shouting emojis at people.

Any advice you could give would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Shortcut to open/close the side bar

I do like the EmojiAddIn, thank you a lot! It's running here version 1.78.7 under Thunderbird 78.8.1.

I'm wondering whether there is a keyboard shortcut to open/close the emoji task pane / side bar ?

I had a look at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts, but unfortunately the general purpose add-on "Dorando Keyconfig" is not compatible with recent version of Thunderbird.

As a broader goal, I'd love to have a keyboard input method to enter emojis (at least most common's) in mails without having to use the mouse, for the sake of rapidity.

Thunderbird 91.3.2 awosome...not very!

Application and version where the issue occurs (e.g. Thunderbird 52.0, Outlook Desktop 2016, Outlook Web)

Thunderbird 91.3.2

Expected behavior

  1. insert them into the active page.
  2. The add-on is very customizable and it lets you configure the up-to-date Emojis in different styles that you know from different devices and applications.
  3. You can also adjust the size of the emojis and the width of the emoji picker.

Actual behavior

  1. No, it doesn't I can only paste it!
  2. Changing the style in settings seem to have LITTLE effect in the emoji
  3. Yes it's true but the smallest is practically invisible and the extra large is barely the size of a normal emoji icon!!!!!

Steps to reproduce the behavior

Set the size and style you want. Open a new email and try to add an emoticon.

Red heart emoji appears in black + preferences

Hello!

I have been inserting the emojis in HTML e-mails pressing the shift key so that it places an image instead of using remote content (which is annoying).

Could a setting be added to insert always as image in HTML e-mails?

Also, the red heart emoji inserts a black heart and the colour needs to be manually changed which means it is not an image but a character.

Thanks!

Cannot Access the Imoji Panel

I first installed Emoji by Michael Ganss a few months ago and it worked perfectly. Then, all of a sudden, the Emoji panel on the right was gone as well as the icon at the top which toggles it on or off. I figured the easiest way to solve the problem would be to simply uninstall it and them reinstall it, which I did. But still no Emoji panel or icon. I have Thunderbird 60.3.3 and Emoji 1.5.8. Be great if I could get it back. Any ideas?

Emojis.

Hallo !

Resolution for #16?

Wondering if a solution was found for the topic in #16. I run Chrome and have the same issue on my desktop.

I'm also wondering about the EmojiOne_3.1.1_128x128_png zip file with all of the emojis that were part of the download from the site. Right now they are sitting on my desktop wondering where they are supposed to go.

Enhancement: configurable panel's icons dimensions

Can you help us, as old people with eyesight not so good?
Sometime the icons into the right panel are not so discernible, so it could be very useful to be able to configure their dimensions as an option. Not into the consequent email, but just into the panel.

Thanks anyway and thanks for this extension.
Best regards

Embed Emoji in HTML message

Expected behavior

When sending emojis in an html message they are being embedded, just like in plain text messages.

Steps to reproduce the behavior

Open an email or reply to an email in Outlook,
put cursor in body of email
open Emoji add on
Select emoji such as
image but when it adds to email it comes out as
image

When in the add on interface, if you hover over many of the emoji, you will see their alternative/hover text does not match the icon selected, and the one inserted matches this hover text. It almost seems as if the previews are cached and/or not refreshing.
