"The paper convincingly shows that using models other than TCPS can show relationships that would otherwise go undiscovered. However, the paper does not show that the complexity of their model (i.e. 2D versus 3D, spheroid versus non-spheroid etc) with its multiple systems is necessary. The relationship between ECM and MEK could be discovered using only the 2D gel system (see Fig. 3). This is important as the innovativeness of the paper comes from the variety of screening platforms being used. Further investigation should be done to demonstrate that the complexity of the model being used is necessary. This is especially true as removing the spherical models would greatly decrease the complexity and time necessary to create the model (see Fig. 1)."
