I'm the current maintainer of pydoctor, I've ported and improved some epydoc code already. Namely the pyval colorizer. I've improved it to colorize AST expressions. You check it out here: https://github.com/twisted/pydoctor/blob/master/pydoctor/epydoc/markup/_pyval_repr.py

Since pydoctor was designed to replace epydoc, it actually uses part of epydoc code to parse epytext and restructuredtext docstrings: https://github.com/twisted/pydoctor/tree/master/pydoctor/epydoc/markup

There is a big tech dept in epydoc, all new python3 language feature must be added - like type annotations, absolute imports, idk what else. You might find it helpful to natigate in pydoctor api docs and navigate to the source code of some parts of the software.

I think it's a great thing that epydoc is running on python3, it is introducing a bit of code duplication in between our two projects, though.
