Extreme memory utilization when given directory containing hundreds of signatures.

I executed lscan two different times (because I'm a dummy), giving it a directory containing 548 .sig files, totalling 15M of disk space. I was scanning a 3MB file, lscan both times quickly used up all 32GB of memory requiring a hard reboot to regain control.
