Is there anyway to just enable WebM support from Perian? At this moment, Perian is the only tool that allows Safari to play embedded webm videos.

It used to work on Snow Leopard but on Mavericks, QTP won´t open any MKV video...

Hi, it would be nice to have a read me included for this repo to let people know how to install this without a .dmg installer. It would also be great if you can include in the readme the current known issues/bugs with the version. Thanks.

Hello! I was looking through this project, and I'm a little confused about where everything ended up!

I noticed that although the last Github release is from 2013, a lot of code has been pushed to other branches since then! For example, I spotted this commit, which seems like it may have added vp9 support. If I can get vp9 to play in QuickTime, that's something I very much want to have!

Does any of this new code work, or should I stick with the last published release? And, if I'm going to need to compile my own copy to use the new code, can you provide any hints on getting it to build (for example, is there a specific version of xCode or macOS SDK I should use?)

I'm on Mavericks, and using a version of QuickTime X I pulled from Mountain Lion and hacked to work, so I don't need to worry about Apple's dumb deprecation moves! :) Thank you so much!

When I stream MP4 movie with Quicktime Components + Perian, SubRip or .ass subtitles don't load, even with "Load External Subtitles" checked.

On pages like Coursera.org there is no audio in the HTML5 video until perian is uninstalled.
Have not seen this on other pages.

The a52codec components does not work on 10.8 and later because it forbids the writing of kAudioCodecPropertyOutputChannelLayout property. Core Audio on ML want to set it, and if it can't it fails.

The responsible code start at line 333 of ACShepA52Decoder.cpp .

When I want to stream a .MKV with MPEG4 video and AC-3 audio on Mavericks, it's not possible. A52Codec.component does not work. Please support AC-3. :)

There is currently a bug when configuring the ffmpeg libraries: one test loops indefinitely.

A workaround is to open up Activity Monitor, go to the Xcode app and go down until you get to a process called ffconf.xxxx, where the x's could be anything. Tell it to quit using Activity Monitor; you may have to force quit it.

When i doubleclick the downloaded Perian.prefPane file, this pop-up shows up in the System Preferences window:

"Could not install (null) preferences pane."

I tried moving it manually in each of the following folders respectively:

~/Library/PreferencePanes/
/Library/PreferencePanes/

but no luck either. The Preference Pane does not show up in the System Preferences when i reopen it.
I'm on the current version of 10.8.

As an alternative, i tried building from source, but there occured a seperate problem, that probably isn't worth it's own thread since it may be my own fault: there is nothing in the /ffmpeg folder. I made a git clone of the current ffmpeg source and put it there, but to just run "make" in the folder fails like this:

Did i do something wrong?

I had QuickLook previews of webm files on Lion (10.7.5) with v1.3.2 but after upgrading to 10.8.5 i no longer have previews of webm files. They play fine in Quicktime and VLC though. Is Perian supposed to provide QuickLook previews of additional file formats?

Will be coming a OS X Yosemite ready Version of Perian? Version 1.3.2 ca be installed, but QuickTime Player still convert many Minutes, then it plays a MKV, but there is no Sound.
