It's not reading dvd movies and the burnt disc with exploit but it reads games disc

less of an issue and more of a question but is it possible to update the firmware on the DVD Player? My fat PS2 came with 3.00U

The README says:

3.11 (all regions EUMACDGJ) - confirmed working on hardware by MrMario2011, and others. Language setting doesn't seem to matter (Japanese language works at least).

However, the tweet that is linked when translated says:

SCPH-90000, FreeDVDBoot 3.11EU.iso [now called 3.11EUMACDGJ.iso]
If the language is [set to] Japanese, black screen. If the language is changed to English, uLE boots.
With 3.11J.iso, black screen [now irrelevant since it was removed]

The video linked in the tweet also shows that

I've seen the issue #18 but I think he wants to run games off of the flash drive, I just want to recreate the demo that CTurt youtube video where he run the shadow of the colussus without running the uLaunchELF. Just like the normal ps2 dvd. I dont want to modify my current ps2.

I Tested All ISO's And None Of Them Work On Aqua Blue PS2. This PS2 Has DVD Player 3.00E. I Will Be Very Thankful If ISO For 3.00

I was trying to do this exploit with a DVD+RW, but it continuously gave me an "Unable to read the disc." error after inserting the disc on a PS2 Slim, disc drive model 3.11U. Is there something with the hard-coding of the disc, or is it just a simple error that i missed? Will this ever be possible with a DVD+RW?

FYI, the hybrid disc I get unable to read error on my SCPH-90001 PS2, DVD player version 3.11U.

The same hybrid disc works fine with my SCPH-75001 PS2, DVD player version 3.11U.

The lesson learned for now is if the hybrid disc doesn't work for your PS2 console for whatever reason, try the 3.11 pre-built iso instead.

I'd like to know if its worth waiting for before I just go the freeHDboot route instead.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'm new to this and I'm not sure how to run a game? Managed to burn and boot on prebuilt iso and how do I start a game from usb now? As I understand it should be an ELF file although I have no idea what that is... Thanks

I don't know where to write this, but I've tried 3.10E version on my 3.10D console and exploit works fine (uLauncELF is launching).

I didn't see any where to start contributing reports on what works and what does not work.

This is a FAT PS2, dvd exploit did not work. DVD player menu came up, and pressing play gave the error "Cannot read disc".

The slim model worked. SCPH-70012, Browser: 1.40, CD Player: 2.00, Playstation Driver 1.11, DVD Player 3.10U

Not sure if this will be helpful, but if others can add in what models they tried and what versions, we could see what is exploitable.

The readme recomends to use DVD-R disks.
Does this mean to not use DVD+R, or was this written with disk-types like DVD-RW in mind?

I think a lot of people don't know that there's a difference between DVD-R and DVD+R (https://www.lifewire.com/different-types-of-dvd-recorders-2482957).
This might be something to make clear in the readme-file.

The exploit shows up as PlayStation disc and not as dvd disc and after i enter it says unable to read disc

to the wonderful developer: Are you planning to make versions for other versions as well? I know you said you "might" but seeing how this project has had such a positive reaction, it would be much appreciated if you would. Or if you could explain how we could make it for our own systems?

I have tried the "3.11 only - all regions - English lang.iso" on my PS2 and it failed.
Then I noticed that I had burned the copy at max speed and made another copy with the lowest speed settings.
The second copy failed too.
To be safe I made another copy with the "hybrid 3.10 and 3.11 - all regions - English lang.iso" and it failed too.
I was sure that my drive was fine and tested it with a DVD movie.
The movie started and everything was fine.
It might be the first time that I have ever played a DVD movie on my PS2.

Now comes the interesting part.
Suddenly all three copies started to work!

Can anyone else confirm that using the DVD Player on the PS2 for the first time with a real DVD movie solves the "unable to read disc" problem?

What write speed should i use for exploit iso 3.11

is the dvd software version supposed to show up on the emulator? im using the same bios files for my emulator that my real console has. i am trying to fix up a 3.02 version of freedvdboot.

I'm fairly interested in trying this out, but the tutorial is somewhat vague. The 3.10EU ISO file doesn't contain any ULaunchELF stuff, and I'm still fairly confused about this as a whole. Can anyone explain that in more detail?

For those who didn't follow the events:
basically this kid created an issue (which already triggers me for improper use but whatever) with a troll program that was supposed to cause a BSOD but didn't even work properly, camouflaging it poorly as a FDVDB ISO generator. (#47, never forget)

After I immediately called him upon his BS and other members scolded him too, he got TRIGGURD and not having anything better to do at that age started spamming new issues just for the sake of it (some were notably titled "zacchi4k is gay").

He got all the way up to #100 at which point I opened this issue just for the lolz (hence the original title) but unfortunately CTurt had already blocked him at that point :(
Then CTurt also deleted all the spam issues as well as #47; or maybe enough people reported him to get him banned because his profile doesn't even seem to exist anymore

(I have many screenshots but it's not my interest to publicly shame a little kid for such an insignificant thing so I'll keep them private or maybe one day censor his name and post them)

So yeah this is also the reason why the issue numbers seemingly suddenly jumped up to 101

Will freedvdboot run on my 3.02U dvd player firmware ps2? I would also like to test it on my ps2 but i have no idea how to do this. Is there any video tutorials currently out?

my games go not show up on opl, so it might be where i got the games from or how i put it on the usb. Does anyone know where i found find iso games and also how to put them on the usb so that i can see them when running opl , Thank You!

So I checked the troubleshooting section etc and I dont really know why its not working. I'm using DVD-R's to burn the image to, I used lot slower speed than needed, also did the burn verification thing and there was no issues with it either.
And my PS2 Slim reads games and regular DVD's completely fine. And I also finalized the DVD.

First tried ISO 3.10 only and it won't be read.
Then tried hybrid, using same DVD brand, same hardware, same software, same everything and loaded instantly.

try to boot into my PS2 but the screen stays in a black screen.
please help any ideas on to why this happens?

Could you create a virtual memory card with a USB device to save the game files? I plan on loading the games via the dvd/cd reader. I know that with some homebrews you could do that but only with games loaded via USB too.

Hi, did anyone test on slim 3.11a? I got my silver slim ps2 in Australia, console scph-77002 browser 1.40, cd player 2.0, ps driver 2.0, dvd player 3.11A. Tried prebuilt 3.11 iso and it just went to red screen saying insert ps2 format disc

Hello all, I can't boot FreeDVDBoot correctly, I tried with the hybrid 3.10 and 3.11 version(in a DVD-R) and the non hybrid 3.11 only version(burned in a DVD-RW), both with the same outcome, it says "Could not read disk".
The hybrid iso, was burned with Imgburn at 1x speed and the second one with Imgburn too but at 2.4x speed.

Any suggestions?

I tried both versions of 3.11 but it got the same error,however the hybrid one got a red screen

I get unable to read disc every time, it enters the dvd but gets black screen with 'unable to read disc.' most likely my laser... I´ve tried DVD-R and +R and same thing... -R seens to stay on black screen more time before showing the message... Any tips? Maybe a costum disc setup with a lighter file so it gets to read less things and boot?

Hi, I’ve tried several times to get FDVDB to work but have only had one successful attempt (and accidentally ruined that disc afterward, oops.)

I originally used the first version of the 3.10EU iso which worked once, but I have been unable to get the new “all regions” version working. Both DVD’s I burned are DVD+R, & were verified. A normal DVD movie starts and plays fine though.

Console: SCPH-70012 / slim
DVD Player: 3.10U

I burned the original disc through Win10 & the second version was done through ImgBurn, if that makes a difference.

I am not sure what to do going forward or what I may be doing wrong. I’ve searched around for other advice/troubleshooting before asking anywhere (also my first time using github for this stuff, sorry, I’m a newbie to tech talk)

I feel like it might could be a physical error but I’m not sure if it’s the new iso or my PS2

My fat ps2 has 3.02 dvd version and it would be really great if dvdboot worked on my ps2

I have a fat console with 2.13A DVD Player firmware. Unfortunately FreeDVDBoot doesn't seem to work, it recognizes it as a DVD however but it won't go any further or boot into FreeMCBoot, it just shows a black screen with DVD controls, unless I'm doing something wrong. I've burnt the hybrid 3.10 - 3.11 image it to a DVD-R disc at 4x speed and verified it with ImgBurn.

Is it also possible to update the firmware to the versions that are supported?

How can I burn ps2 game iso's and play? Can I put the game(or multiple games) ISO inside the prebuilt ISO? Can I burn a disk with freedvdboot and then after loading ulaunchelf, take of that disk and insert another dvd with a burned game? I dont want to use USB for loading games (due to speed stability) nor use a memory card.
Sorry but I'm a noob.

Whenever I boot with the disc no Storage devices show up, that’s till I unplug my controller then they show up right away and then I can plug my controller back in and everything works properly. Not sure what causes this but I thought I’d put it out there Incase anyone else is having problems loading in.

I first found out how to make it pop up because my controller never works off start I’ll always have to unplug and plug it back to get it to work and after doing this I noticed it made Ulaunch start working. So if anyone else is having problems try this!!!
