os-ims's Issues

Corona needle requires separate power source?

The first ring of the desolvation region should be connected to an electric potential of 11.5 kV via a high voltage power supply. and corona needle needs a power supply with almost same potential.

Can I use same power supply or should I use separate power source?

Final Assembly!

I finished the assembly of OS-IMS,

IMS-complete

This is my final assembly, I have few questions before I start testing the device.

1) I used a conductor needle (200 micron) for sample injection, is it fine or should I used non-conductor material like PEEK capillary, the one you used in your paper?
2) I put three shatter grid between drift and desolvation region. And the last electrode of both drift and desolvation region is connected to the first and third grid respectively. I put insulator between first and second grid and second and third grid. Is this configuration correct or should I make some changes?
3) Should I use floating power source, by floating I mean should I use just positive terminal of the HV power source?
If I need to connect the negative terminal of the HV source, which point should I attach the negative terminal?

The aperture grid is etched stainless steel grid? And how to connect?

In the paper you mentioned that drift tube is terminated with aperture grid,
following lines are from your paper.

_To shield the detector from an image current induced from the approaching ion cloud, the drift tube is terminated with an aperture grid which is directly placed on the last electrode, followed by 1 spacer and finally the detector. The aperture grid is connected via a 500 k resistor to ground, as shown in Fig. 12. To stabilize the voltage on the aperture grid, it is advantageous to add an additional capacitor (we used 0.22mF) in parallel to the resistor.

I have few questions;

  1. What is aperture grid? it is etched stainless steel grid?
  2. How to connect Detector to drift tube? Can you please explain this figure?
    its from your paper.

  1. Where should I connect the ground terminal of the supply (common ground)?

Getting some errors while opening eagle files

Hello,

I am getting this error (Line 9, column 122: This is not an eagle file) while opening eagle files, almost the same thing happens for all .brd files. May you please let me know how I can figure out this problem?

Many thanks

corona needle should be connected to the SMA connector?

In the paper, in section 6, corona needle placement is described briefly. I paste that portion of paper below:

_**For the measurement of the corona-ionizationspectrum (Fig. 17(a)), a home built corona needle was placed centric and in close proximity to the first ring of the desolvationregion and connected to an electric potential of 14.5 kV. Then, sampled headspace from 2,4-lutidine was applied via a PEEK capillary which is connected to a gas tight syringe containing the sample. The capillary sample inlet is shown inFig. 16. Theassembly is similar to the assembly of the drift gas inlet described above, while using a 0.01 ID/0.062 OD PEEK capillaryinstead of the Teflon hose. Due to the smaller diameter of the capillary compared to the Teflon hose, only one (middle) ofthe three spacers used has a cut out. It should be noted that a range of gas-phase sample introduction mechanisms maybe implemented

My Question is,

Should I attach the corona needle into SMA connector or should I palace it at a distance?
