nvda-translate's Issues

bug: 2019 add on is not compatible

I went to go download the 2019 version of this add on and it is not compatible. The 2020 link actually gives a 404. Can this please be looked into? I actually miss using this add on as it enabled me to talk to someone from china, and translate other stuff on the fly.

Thanks.

Translation error

The following error is occurring on the translation server, preventing translations from happening

svn status

Adding a Speech Dictionary Menu for NVDA Translate Caches

I opened the translation cache files in Notepad++, and I saw that the text strings were mostly in readable form. By mostly, I mean for the languages that don't use non-Latten characters. Those languages show Unicode numbers I think.
I was wondering if it would be possible to edit the translation cache through an NVDA Speech Dictionaries dialogue? This way you could do things such as adding regular expressions. This would be useful in situations where you get a string of text that stays the same except for a certain part in the middle, i.e., "You have 5 pieces of gold" and "You have 6 pieces of gold". This way, the translate addon won't generate several instances of the same text, making the translation cache larger than necessary. This will also help me edit translations in the cache without having to do it manually and learn the Unicode characters.

Add DeepL API support

The DeepL service provides extremely accurate machine translation for a growing number of languages, though not all of them just yet. In my personal experience its Japanese translations blow Microsoft, Google and Yandex out of the water with how understandable they are, and it does well with the test of taking text in English, translating it to Japanese and then translating the result back. The website has an API and python library already, though the user of course has to provide auth keys. I request the ability to select this service for the languages it supports, the choice of a free or pro server, and a field to enter an API key. Perhaps if this fails you could fall back to the system you're already using, this would cover the case of missing API keys or languages it can't detect. This would vastly improve the understandability of many dialogs in Japanese games I suspect.

Feature: Ability to choose translation language

Description

Currently the NVDA's language (or Windows language) is used as the translation language by the add-on.
Would be good to be able to choose a language using a preferences dialog.

Sometimes causes NVDA to freeze silently

In some regions, the Google Translate Engine is not accessible, and attempting to turn on just-in-time translation will cause NVDA to freeze and NVDA must be restarted.
I'm guessing that the wait trying to request Google's servers is blocking NVDA.

ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'html.parser'

Looks like this addon currently doesn't work with the latest NVDA snapshots, as this error is returned. Full log:
ERROR - globalPluginHandler.listPlugins (14:37:07.393) - MainThread (37948):

It'd be awesome if this could be fixed :)

the addon dont works

when clicking ctrl+shift+t it says translation enabled, but it dont translates.

Use a different Google Translate URL for the translation engine

Hi,
Thanks for creating this add-on.
translate.google.com is not accessible in certain regions such as China.
I would like to have a settings panel for this add-on in the NVDA settings panel with a combo box to allow the user to choose which URL to use. It can include: translate.google.com, translate.google.cn, translate.google.hk

{BUG} site domains stripped out of translated text

I noticed this when I was translating Danish text to English, and I'm not sure if it's something going on with the add-on itself since Google Translate seems to do it just fine when using the service separately from the NVDA add-on

For instance, if you have a link on the same line which contains a domain, like nvaccess.org, nvda.dk, etc, NVDA simply says link and nothing else. If you also enter it as simple text and read it using the down arrow and it is by itself on a line, NVDA remains silent.

This is using NVDA Version: alpha-16885,2ed7dbae mind you (also attempted with NVDA 2018.4.1) and add-on release 2019.03.

ability to translateinput text to a given language

Given an input text from a designed user interface dialog in the add-on, add the ability yo ytanslate it to the desired language and copy the result to the clipboard.

Typical workflow

  • Use a gesture to bring the input translate dialog
  • select the source / destination language
  • type the text to translate
  • press the "copy to clipboard" button
  • optionnally, use the "Insert here" button to insert the text in the focused edit field.

For the "insert here" feature, the user shall be on an edit field (either multi-line or not) before using this gesture.

nvda 2021

when will tis addon work with nvda 2021?

Addon does not work in ukrainian language.

When NVDA interface language is set to ukrainian, addon does not work. Any text is translated into English. Please add the ability to use the application for users whose NVDA interface language is Ukrainian. Thanks.

{feature} Add braille support

Currently the translated text is only spoken, would be nice to have it written to the connected braille display as well.
