I have tried to solve this bug with autoOrient. It's a known issue with iOS products:
if gm.isAvailable
gm(readStream, fileObj.name()).autoOrient().stream().pipe(writeStream)
else
readStream.pipe(writeStream)

Ok I will work on this issue and submit a pull request. In the company I work for we got around this issue with cold fusion by stripping the mets data for the image altogether. If the image is rendered on an iOS device without the metadata. iOS will interpret the image as it was when it was initially imported rather than reading the orientation.
