fontpreview-ueberzug's Issues

Using Background and foreground colors causing preview corruption

When I call:

fontpreview-ueberzug

Correct preview is generated

Screenshot_2024-01-30_11-13-35

If I use background and foreground colors:

fontpreview-ueberzug -b '#272822' -f '#f8f8f2'

Screenshot_2024-01-30_11-13-22

I get the above result.

Tried in both XFCE terminal and Alacritty.

Environment:

  • ueberzugpp 2.9.2
  • Debian 12 (Spiral Linux)
  • Current master brach of fontpreview-ueberzug
  • xonsh/0.14.4

Idea: use a general image viewer (response to ueberzug's removal)

In case anyone doesn't know, as the time of writing, ueberzug has been removed by the author due to some "harassment and insulting" (see the current project readme). So my little script need adapting, too.

My current thought is to enable it to use any image viewer, as long as it can monitor file changes and reload when needed. With this change the appearance will be similar to the original fontpreview, but still having the advantage of the continuous experience. That is, the preview will change as you move within the list, no need to press enter every time.

Text Alignment option

It would be nice if there were an option to change the text alignment, as I use this to preview how code would look on different fonts. Something like -a left/center/right

Emoji in preview text?

Looks like Unicode notation \Uxxxx and emoji aren't supported. I've tried fontpreview -t ๐Ÿ˜€ but it didn't work.

Add License

Really like this tool, good job! In fact I like it so much that would like to create an AUR package to make installation easier for all Arch-based distros, for this however, a software license is required

Preview window/process left open after exit

I'm using the latest version of package fontpreview-ueberzug-git from AUR, which is r32.a083d3a-1, on the latest Artix Linux, and in the latest version of that package font preview window stays open even after exiting the fontpreview-ueberzug program by pressing Esc. Also a process with the command line /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/ueberzug layer --parser simple --silent is left open. When killed (for example, by pskill -9 ueberzug, the parameter -9 is necessary), the leftover preview window disappears. This was a known issue in ueberzug, which was subsequently fixed, but it seems it doesn't propagate to fontpreview-ueberzug-git.

Preview all fonts

Feature idea

Preview all font at once in a list (one font per line).

Would make it easy to compare lot of fonts at once.

Info regarding script

Hey, I would like to understand a bit of whats happening when you start and stop ueberzug. The part I am confused on is the place where you redirected 3 to $FIFO. The url provided seems to have been expired.

Preview text file argument?

It would be nice to have a block of code loaded, but it's a bit difficult to make that into a commandline argument. How about a flag to specify a file to read the preview text string from?
