compbio2018's Issues

Midpoint

I understand data processing and cleaning. I also understand visualizations such as making graphs. I am not strong with using the UNIX terminal, and manipulating BLAST searches.

Issues

I understand loading in data frames and making simple graphs.
I don't understand almost anything dealing with a terminal and I don't understand alignments.

Course Understandings

Some things I understand well are making graphs and maps and manipulating data sets to create subsets, split columns, and getting lists.
One thing I don't understand very well is how to use ArgParse and I still struggle with writing functions sometimes and understanding what all needs to go into them.

My Struggles

I get Dataframe manipulation and terminal use
I don't get plots or magic characters that correlate to specific things like , and the different methods to use like [], {}, ()

Issue ID:000001

First post! Sorry for crashing the killing everyones kernel every class.

Issues

Things I understand:

  • I think I understand the data clean up fairly well
  • I think I am starting to understand how to use the terminal to accomplish things

Things I don't understand:

  • how matplotlib is different from plotnine
  • the functions still really confuse me

What I get and what I don't

I feel pretty comfortable working with data frames, doing splits, dropping columns and so on.
I also feel pretty good about the Genbank work that we've done so far.
I feel much less comfortable with the Unix work on terminal. I'm getting a little better, but it needs work.
I've also struggled with some of the plotting.
I absolutely can't tell if my last Pull request worked.

What DOn't get

terminal, scripts, docstring

plots, dataframes, & importing.

issues

I am still having trouble with the terminal, it is hard to try to remember all the steps to do. At the beginning I get the hang of it but once we start adding more stuff I get confused. I feel good about importing data frames and making certain types of graphs. I like doing those especially with the different colors. I am also still having trouble about where and how to begin certain things and that makes it even harder to understand the material and move forward.

Understanding

My understanding of how to work in terminals has gone up a lot. I also have a good understanding of how to make figures and graphs.
I don't understand how to use argparse and sys.arg and the first project I had a hard time with making my function a script.
