uvmod's Issues

Filter weather alerts by using SAME codes?

Is it possible to have the weather alerts filtered by SAME codes (up to 3 or 5)?
Weather stations broadcast on a vast territory and alerts are often only for a specific county.

From https://www.weather.gov/iln/nwr_same:
At the beginning of the product transmission, 3 bursts of digital static are heard (which make up the 6 digit SAME code)
Followed by 10 second 1050hz alarm tone
Followed by the actual audio message.

Has anyone ever looked into this? Would it even be feasable...I have doubts because of the "digital static" part possibly couldn't be demodulated?

Edit: Important note, I am ordering my K6 on Black Friday, but looking forward to get a go at this.

Problem with scanning

Scanning problem. When I start scanning, the display light is steady and won't turn off. Would it be better when I turn on scanning to have it glow for 5s, the display would go off and when a signal is detected it would light up again? Would you write the mode please?

cant flash uv5r plus

not possible to flash the modded file to the radio quanseng uv5r plus

Download updater software - security concern

Not sure if this is the best way to notify of this security issue. However its an issue, and needs to be reported. Upon cloning the project, and reviewing the "Download updater software" section I find that the uvk5updater.zip and embedded AnonymPSUpdater_Setup_EN.exe are lighting up VirusTotal indicating these files are malicious. Strangely enough the MFG was the one I would be more concerned with. It does have 1 issue, but thats an issue for them. While I understand we do not have to use the updater software exe itself, but having malicious executable included seems like a very bad idea. Can someone address this concern? Please see the VirusTotal links below for full details.

Thanks
Ash,

can you make it able to transmit in FM radio signals?

As a tour guide, i need an FM transmitter (88 MHz to 108MHz). at the same time i need a walkie talkie too.
Can you make it possible this UV-K5 to transmit in FM Radio signals, and can be received clearly by regular radio receiver?
Thank you

Dodatkowe kroki strojenia i podmiana kanałów NOAA

Web flasher does not work on Linux / Chromium

The UVMOD "Flash directly" button fails on my Linux machines. I've tested with Chromium 116 on Arch Linux and Chromium 115 on Debian Sid.

I'm using a FTDI FT232 based programming cable that I have both successfully used on Linux with CHIRP to program the UV-K5 and other radios, as well as to flash the UV-K5 using UVMOD's "Flash directly" feature on a Windows 10 machine using Edge. The cable also works with k5prog. The cable works and so does Linux's access to the serial port.

It doesn't provide any useful error messages to troubleshoot the problem:
"No data received, is the radio connected and in flash mode? Please try again."

Flashing with Ubuntu 23.10 & Chrome 119.0.6045.159 doesn't work

I tried to flash a k5(8) but i get a "No data received, is the radio connected and in flash mode? Please try again." error. Don't know how to keep going. In any case thank you for your work, it's amazing.

The radio is in bootloader mode and connected according to the instructions using the appropriate order.

Mod Not working

After following the instructions and applying the mods, I wanted to extend the RX range of Band 1 from 76mhz to 78mhz. despite many attempts I cannot seem to access any higher than 76mhz. Am I doing something wrong here?

WebSerial is not supported in Brave browser

"WebSerial is not supported in this browser. Use a chromium based browser such as Chrome, Edge, Opera..."

Brave browser is a chromium based browser and don't work on it.

TX unlock

I flashed with UVMOD and Enabled TX Everyhwere except Airband and Custom Frequency Range (Simple Mode- 18-1300Mhz) but if I try to transmit above 600 Mhz, it reverts to 600Mhz. Is there something else that needs to be done to make this work?

Backlight stays lit when scanning through memory channels or frequency

Used website https://whosmatt.github.io/uvmod/ to compile and write firmware to my UV-K5 and backlight stays lit when scanning through memory channels or frequency. Unfortunately I do not remember exact options I chose but for sure:

  • Apps: RSSI, S-Meter and battery voltage readout on the main screen. By @piotr022, v78.
  • Battery icon: Changes the battery icon to a more normal looking variant.
  • Increase Mic Gain: Gives the microphone gain an additional boost, making the microphone generally more sensitive.
  • NOAA Frequencies
  • Custom Frequency Ranges: Simple Mode: Extend Band 1 down to 18 MHz and Band 7 up to 1300 MHz. This is the maximum frequency range of the chip.

Mod for listening to satellites with doppler effect

Hi, I like the project and want to create a mod. I am programmer and Ill start working on it.

To listen to satellites, you need to keep switching frequencies every minute, due to doppler effect. I am hoping to create a mod that lets you select a satellite, and its frequency. Then the radio automatically changes frequency every minute.

Is there anything like or similar to that? or a starting point that I can use to start programming something for this?

Thanks for the good work you are doing on the mods!!!

Please update fagci to v 78

Could you please update the fagci mod to v78? This fixes the stepping on 8.33 for cleaner reception.
Thank you!

CH name and frequency displayed at same time.

I've seen this on a few other mods and it's a really nice feature to be able to see the memory number, the name, and the frequency all at the same time. Please consider adding this as an option.

TX only on PMR466

Hi and thank you so much for your work.
It is possible to add a mod for the TX that will enable transmission only on the PMR446 frequency? Thank you.

[Question] Identify the units that have the problem with the transmit power calibration.

As indicated in the readme, some radios have a problem with calibrating the TX power, these units need firmware 2.01.27 to operate correctly.

I have a radio which dates from 07/2023 according to the green sticker under the battery and which has firmware 2.01.27, I don't have a way to test the transmission power so I don't know if this radio has the problem, and so if I can use uvmod...

I saw a radio with a newer sticker 08/2023 and which was delivered with firmware 2.01.26, so we can assume that the problem is "fixed" and that Quansheng no longer uses firmware 2.01.27 (?)

My question is the following:
Do we know if all radios delivered with firmware 2.01.27 have the issue of calibrating the TX power?
Do some people have radios delivered with 2.01.27 and who do not have the TX power issue with firmware 2.01.26?

Backlight on memory scan

I've noticed that when scanning memory channels, the backlight will never time out. I've rolled back to official firmware to test and it doesn't happen there.

Implementation of two mods

Hi and thank you for your job!

Is it possible to implement those two mods:
mod_custom_freq_ranges.py
mod_more_freq_steps_and_backlight_duration.py

both are from uvmod_kitchen

Thank you!

Unable to use frequencies above 144.0

Hi

I patched my quansheng with your tool, checking the Custom Frequency Ranges option but I can't reach frequencies under 144.0

What's going wrong ?

Thx

Custom TX Range upper limit too strict

When I enable the hidden features of UVMOD, i check the box for Custom TX Range.

I then define the following lower limit:

446006250

And the following upper limit:

446193750

These are the official PMR frequencies.

But now, when going to 446.193750 and I press the PTT button, I get the message "disabled" even though that's the upper limit define by me, the lower limit (446.006250) works fine, and I'm able to transmit on it.

It looks to me like the compare of the current frequency and the lower/upper limit is a bit broken.

Is looks like it's making a >= compare instead of a > compare. (I'm not sure how it's technically implemented)

Air band transmit

Hi

The air band actually goes from 108MHz to 136MHz rather than 118MHz to 136MHz.

The lower half (108MHz to 118MHz) is used for ILS (instrument landing system) and VOR (VHF OmniRange) .. ie, used at and around the run way strips.

So really it'd be best to extend you air band TX disable to go from 108MHz to 136MHz. Anyone caught transmitting on the lower half to try and block their landing systems would soon be found and dealt with (as they would be on the upper comms half).

Unable to flash mods over Egzumer v0.22

I'm having trouble flashing additional mods (custom boot screen and 'Futuristic Font') with Egzumer v0.22, even when the Egzumer .bin is uploaded as the firmware version.
I have a UV-K6 and have selected this in the menu.

When I turn my radio on after the patch has completed, the boot screen hasn't changed and the font hasn't either - but the font mod does cause a few random parentheses to show up in various places on the screen.

Is it even possible to flash these mods alongside Egzumer?

Apologies if this question is a silly one, I'm pretty inexperienced with this stuff.

Please add these features

First of all many thanks for your great work! keep it up.
It would be great to add:

  • AM RX and AM TX on all Frequencies
  • Frequency Steps enhanced e.g. 8.33khz, 500khz, 0.01khz, 1,25khz, 10000khz,...
  • 18-1300 MHz RX/TX already added?

An Android OTG Firmware Flasher as by modded Firmwares for MD380 would be great...

TYT ,,SPEC CODE'' at Quansheng

Hi. Isn't there any way to put the so-called ,,SPEC CODE'' into Quansheng ? Without it I can't connect TYT TC-999 and I would like to use this function.

TRANSIMITIR AIR BAND EN MODO AM y no FM
