This might not be considered a bug – but after using the API on an old XP machine and on Mac OS, I installed ruby on a newly installed Vista machine and got an exception the first time I tried to query accounts.

The error came from this line in wesabe/request.rb ¹²⁷
def self.ca_file
[File.expand_path(“~/.wesabe”), File.join(File.dirname(FILE), ‘..’)].each do |dir|

And the problem is with the reference to “~”.

The actual error is:
“could’t find HOME environment — expanding ‘~/.wesabe’.”

It turns out this line can work fine on Windows (despite the “~”, I guess ruby translates it internally) but only if the environment variable HOME is set.
Turns out it’s not set by default in a clean Vista installation (not sure about XP my install was old and far from clean)
So I imagine a lot of users will run into this on windows – it might be better to catch the problem in the code.
