I almost thought the author was really sloppy with spelling but there were too many errors to ignore so I cross checked ff.net versus the generated file, and I realized the errors were only in the generated MOBI file and not on the original ff.net story.
There seemed to be no pattern of what letters are missing in any word. I've seen them mostly as the first letter missing, but sometimes a letter right in the middle of the word.
Sample Chapter: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/1755345/24/War-s-Shadow
This line is from ff.net: <em>Tenseiga. </em>
(fourth paragraph from the top)
Another case (same chapter):
<p>Because she is Lien.
I unfortunately deleted my old generated file so I don't know if this is a new issue due to recent changes, or has always been like this.
As always, great work! I'm happy to test away :) π
Thank you so much for posting!
Missing chapter 12 from https://m.fanfiction.net/s/9434767/12/
I've been using this site for a while, it's very efficient by the way, but for a couple of days I'm getting this error.
I've tried different fics with different chapter lengths and I can only download one-shots. A week ago I could download 72 chapters long fics in a few seconds. Any idea what might cause this?
hey I was just wondering when the PDF file was coming back?
Thanks.
Hello, and thank you for all the effort you put into making FicSave !
It's no big issue, and I apologize if it was already signaled/taken care of, but the epub files I'm downloading actually come with a wrong publication date (more precisely, today's date.)
(I open them using Calibre. )
Thanks again !
The Site has been down for maintenance for over a week now, and it continues to say it will be back up in 24 hours. What's the deal?
In the result there's only table of contents and no text of the story whatsoever.
Fictionpress uses the exact same backend as ff.net, it would be a five minute fix to support both sites.
I took the liberty of checking out the ePub format, which I can open up in iBooks. It renders the <hr>
elements perfectly.
In MOBI format, the hr's are missing and when you're reading a story that's longer than most average fiction books, it gets kind of confusing when they are missing and we jump to another scene but are still in the same chapter.
Is there a way to include horizontal rules for MOBI format? They are missing from both stories I've tested:
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/1755345/1/War-s-Shadow
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/1998517/1/You-Who-Never-Arrived
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5345583/1/FG2-The-Trio-Hit-Hogwarts
is one such example.
While the EPUB and MOBI complete in less than 20 seconds, the PDF continues to count up the seconds, but does not actually ever complete.
I suspect this is due to a translation issue wherein the " - " in the title of the story translates to unknown characters - specifically " Γ’β¬β ".
If you jump to a chapter from the table of contents (the chapter list that links to the beginning of each chapter), the title of the chapter is not rendered correctly.
However, when paging through the book this issue doesn't happen or seems to correct itself. i.e. If I go back a page then go forward, it's fine again.
Fic tested: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/1755345/1/War-s-Shadow
Specifically, If you do not end the url with a '/', I am not sure if it does hang forever, but I quit it after 500s.
every time I try to click download it times out with error message
Hi, I just downloaded 8 epub fics from fanfiction.net. I'm having trouble with the 9th one.https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4730390/1/Naruto-Genkyouien. I end up with a 27kb file that only contains 1 short chapter. I've read in one of the issues here saying the fic is big but the first one of the 8 I got was 616k words which isn't that much different from 693k. Any idea what's wrong? Thanks.

Downloaded https://www.fanfiction.net/s/3766574/1/Prince-of-the-Dark-Kingdom which is a MASSIVE story - 146 chapters, ~1.25 million words. The story was fine for the first 126 chapters (Book VI, Chapter 16) - then its a dog's breakfast. I get the right Chapter Heading (Book VI, Chapter 17) but the chapter that follows is actually Book VI Chapter 21. The next Chapter is correct [Title Book VI Ch18 and corresponding chapter], But then a chapter from Book VII starts, then it jumps back to Book VI for the following chapter. Random placement seems to continue from that point on. Some chapters are completely missing from the final download.
As to the process - I did click the [Download] button only once - it did take a long time, but I never interrupted it. The epub was ~2.77 Mb.
Hi,
I found an issue downloading both epub and pdf for a fic with a large number of chapters (~87).
The fic in question is https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9750991/1/Angry-Harry-and-the-Seven
I tried the download as an epub and pdf on my MacBookPro using Chrome, and the download happened rather quickly, for such a large fic. However, the epub didn't open in iBooks - saying that the ebook is corrupted, and the PDF had the chapter list and just empty pages for each chapter..
On my mobile (Note 4), downloading an epub, and opening in Aldiko, I found a similar behaviour - I can see the Table of Contents, but the pages are empty after that.
Cheers,
brilliantnut
Hi. I've noticed with the last several stories I've downloaded that there are missing sections of text when I go to read them; anything from a few sentences, to several chapters in one case. The book that was missing chapters was fixed when I did it again as an ePub rather than mobi file; for the missing sentences, it doesn't seem to matter what format.
Any ideas why this is happening?
Hey!
I just noticed that that the download doesn't start even after a long time waiting with a really long fic (over 600.000 words).
Fic in question: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7920322/41/Mass-Effect-Human-Revolution.
And I noticed that there was an error while downloading a fic from adultfanfiction.net, that made no page breaks, instead there were chapter-long "pages".
Thank you for providing this program!
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8681612/
An ePub was missing chapter 10

This isn't so much of an issue as a suggestion, but if it's possible it would be really helpful for there to be chapter markers integrated into the MOBI when you download it. Having to go page by page to find a spot is quite a hassle.
Apart from that though, this is awesome. Thanks!
I just downloaded like 10 fanfics off of your site (thanks!!) but this one in particular is not downloading for some reason?
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/1962685/1/A-Stranger-in-an-Unholy-Land
I've tried it like 9 times, at this point other fics download in 5-10 seconds, but this one is still "waiting-758s"
Hello,
Thanks for making this great tool, it works really well.
Except for one possible thing. When I'm reading on, say, a tablet and whenever I want to jump to specific chapters at the start, it comes up with an error: (BTW, this is for MOBI)
"URL Not found, The selected URL could not be found in the current document."
Hopefully you can look up on this issue and fix it as soon as possible, thanks again!
Using Safari on my iPad mini and error on this file: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8057318/7/The-Real-Life-of-E-A-Masen, in PDF format.
Am I doing something wrong?
At least, this is what I was told by an Amazon representative. As they're just people who read things from a screen I didn't get the whole story, but the guy forwarded my query to the Kindle development department. Basically, I was wondering why all of the fanfics I send to my Kindle weren't appearing. I tried with a PDF, hey presto. So I think if this is true, epub should be greyed out when a Kindle e-mail is entered.
p.s. I put in a donation of $13.37 because I think you've done a great job with this. π Go get yourself a pizza or something!
I have tried, on the last few days, to download several different stories from Ffn.net. On every attempt, when pressing "download", and "error" pops up where the download button is. Is this a general problem or just one on my end. I have tried on both my iPad and Macbook with the same results on each.
I'm trying to run FicSave on a lighttpd Server, but all I'm seeing, is the button changing color, when I click, nothing else.
I've tried multiple fics they all come out the same: missing pages, word overlap.
example:
http://hp.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600097525
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9142309 - chapter 19: Brodor - epub
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/2012849 - chapter 25: The Last Betrayal - epub
on iPad 2 and iPhone 4S running iOS 8, using the Marvin app
both load this error on the chapter, then it just goes to the next chapter
really nice not to have to write this myself. worked great for the 3 or 4 fics i tried. if its possible to send you a paypal donation, let me know.
if theres a command line interface, could you add it to the readme? if not, could you make one? im allergic to php. {i imagine: php5 cli.php --epub --out a.epub 'http://example.com'}
kindle support seems to be missing from github. i do not care about kindle, and i imagine you just havent gotten around to updating the repo, but the discrepancy makes me wonder about whether the code on your server is recording ip+fanfic and selling it to amazon. {im not in any way implying that it DOES, just expressing vague unease}
if there is a different reason that it cant go into github {say, youre planning on putting ads on the website to monetize kindle users, etc}, please let me know.
Hey, this isn't a major issue but more of a suggestion.
Is it possible to have the file that is downloaded be Author - Title.filetype ? When it downloads for me (I use the MOBI option), it is Title - Author.filetype, which I assume is the norm for the other formats as well.
Thanks for all your hard work! Love this site btw! :D

When I go to download a fanfic all I'm getting is a blank page. No open in iBooks
so I tried downloading on my tablet which worked previously but now that I try I am only getting a 7byte file and no book
I noticed that 'em' and 'strong' tags in stories weren't formatted as such in a MOBI file. It was difficult to read through since a character's thoughts are usually italicized. Is this a limitation of MOBI files?
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9207424/
Results in an ePub which gives
Cannot open book
It is formatted incorrectly, or is not a format that iBooks can open.
After inserting the URL and pressing the download button, nothing happens. This applies for all formats.
The table of contents generated with epub files is bugged. On the table of contents navigation page, the "table of contents" link appears at the end of the list even though it is at the beginning. Previously, the chapter currently being read appeared bolded on the navigation page, now it does not and the "table of contents" link is always bolded.
Fanfiction not downloading at all. It is just queuing.
tried to download this https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10204063/1/Edward-Cullen-Friends-Down-on-the-Bayou
The epub wouldnt even open in Adobe Digital Editions.
It's seem to have a bug with the character " (called guillemet in my native language) in adultFanfiction .
The text after this character is not exported.
(by exemple in this story http://hp.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600014996)
Excuse my poor english and Thank you for your app's, It's very usefull.
I downloaded a story in MOBI format from this link: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/1755345/1/War-s-Shadow
The first 15 lines or so have special dashes in them, which display incorrectly in MOBI format. Possibly because they aren't HTML entities so much as just straight up characters.
This particular author makes use of the character 'β¦' instead of simply using three periods as in '...'. This is something else that displays incorrectly and can be found in Chapter 17, paragraph 8 here: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/1755345/17/War-s-Shadow
You did a great job, this is a very useful tool for my fanfic reading :) Thank you so much π
In my last few downloads, there are missing areas of text again. No entire chapters so far, but enough that the plot is lost. Here is a section from A Veela's Charmer, chapter 3 (I think):
Are you attach or like someone?" "No" "This might be embarrassing but do you like boys or girls?" "Oh! That's easy. Both." At that the rest look at him. "What!? So I am curious. Is that a crime" "But.but you a virgin" Harry looked at the blonde boy with suspicion, "yeah, so?" "I think I better explained." Dumbledore said.
After he finished his tale, all of them look at Harry for his reaction and saw a nonchalant boy. A reaction that none of them had expected. "Just as I expected.." He said. "Huh!?" "I know he my soulmate but I never expected that is a Veela. A lovely couple we make.hehehe" Prof Dumbledore ask the question in everyone's mind, "Why is that?" "I am a Charmer." that caused another round of 'huh?' around the house.
Hey!
First, thanks for writing this great tool, it seems like it works quite fast.
However, I noticed that at a certain point in longer chapters it looks like it simply stops working.
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8831374/1/The-Power-of-the-Press
That's the fic it happens with, and it seems to be the case for mobi AND epub.
