radiofeedz's Issues

Feeds update is way too slow

Currently the retrieval of feeds is very slow and it is growing with the number of sources (so the requests might not be parallelized).

Play talk uses the wrong intent

So far when playing a radio talk, the Intent used does not trigger any activity. It should trigger an audio player. And it should trigger it whether the file is downloaded or not.

handle RSS text feeds

This RSS reader is intended for use with audio talk, but what about other types of content?

Work on app presentation (nice-to-have)

  • switch to previous/next item when swiping to right/left in the Feed Item Reader
  • add this thingy on the left of the action bar to display a side panel to navigate to today's/unread/downloaded/archived items
  • make it possible for this navigation drawer to access weekly feeds/most popular author/most popular categories
  • look at possibility to improve read/unread icon
  • offer possibility to switch between List and Grid for items
  • Allow swiping a list item, if possible, to archive it or to add it to the starred list

Filter the type of the media

Recognize and filter the MIME type of the media item in order to handle it properly. In particular, manage types:

  • image
  • music

Downloaded talk is ignored

The downloaded file for a radio talk should be filtered and the Uri of the radio talk should be stored to be played later on.

Work on app presentation

  • change the app name (appears as radiofeedz/audiorss)
  • remove menu icon to search activity as not implemented
  • try different layouts for feed item in the list (date, ...)
  • try nicer look of Feed Item Reader
  • Download from the contextual menu in the list

random SQLiteDatabaseLockedException, fix it

SQLiteDatabaseLockedException: db is locked sometimes happen. This is very rare so far, but may increase with number of feeds/processors.
A priori there are a couple ways to fix it, most require to reshape the DB layer. One cool way would be to use a ContentResolver.

It is a long-term enhancement for now as it happens pretty rarely.

Be creative to suggest feeds

So far, it is manual and relatively complex to add new feeds. Find a way (maybe search engine API) to offer a wide catalog of feeds.

allow deletion of feed

There should be some features around the management of feeds, in particular their deletion.

Cosmetic things

  • When a feed is added, add a toast to say it. Like "find it by swiping to left"
  • Add text when news list is empty not to scare others
  • Remove the toast saying the pic is not available
  • Improve Feed Item Reader : justify, add padding, squeeze the title in the pager top bar

Format date properly

The date of a podcast is so far the original one. Format it to a more human and localized version.
