For example, dont attempt to playback 4k on only Full HD screens.
I just tested this add-on on Linux (HTML5, no Flash) and Firefox 33.
The add-on works fine, but it takes up one of my 4 cores and let's the browser lock-up for a little time every few seconds. Almost looks like something heavy is polling in the background.
That also affects a playing video, which makes the add-on a bit inconvenient.
For example select 720p for 1280:800 instead of 1080p. This may result in worse guess for 4:3 videos, but that ratio is rare.

Recently became change only to the 720p. Not 2k or 4k and not even 1080p, but only 720p. Tested in IceCat 31.2.0, FF 34 on my computer and in the virtual box. Sorry for English.
The quality settings may not change for some embedded YouTube videos as this addon requires YouTube's JavaScript API to be explicitly enabled with enablejsapi=1 parameter in URL of the video.
Despite that it is rather hard to find a video with the API disabled and this issue does not apply on YouTube.com.
