For spell checking purposes, it would be good to ignore
the contents of various constructs:
\label{}
\ref{}
\cite{}
\includegraphics{}
and so on...
I cannot find a way to enable some of my installed spellcheckers, the list only shows English spell checkers, any idea?
If you type \begin{x} at the bottommost visible line, winefish automatically inserts a matching "\end{x}", and moves the cursor in between.
However, the scrolling is not updated at this point, rendering the cursor invisible.
Winefish desperatly needs a text style editor. White background with small letters are a killer to me that have bad eyesight.
Using xubuntu 11.10 32bits
Winefish version: 1.3.3
Winefish highlight tex files wrongly all the time. Sometimes, a comment "%" needs a blank space at the end to fix the highlight and so on. Tags and even plain text gets wrong highlight also.

Summary:
Winefish doesn't react on removal of comment delimiter
Original Submission:
I'm using Winefish 1.3.3 (on Gentoo)
I've encountered several issues with LaTeX comments in Winefish:
1. When removing the LaTeX comment delimiter "%" from the beginning of a line,
the syntax-highlighting doesn't adapt, the line is still drawn like a comment.
However, when I insert a "\", the highlighting is updated and the line shows correctly.
Steps to reproduce:
- Write a comment with a comment sign at the beginning.
- Remove the comment character
- The line s still drawn like a comment
2. Comment signs within a line do not make Winefish update the highlighting,
the line is still drawn like normal sourcecode. However, when the comment character is removed,
then the text is drawn like comment text.
Steps to reproduce:
- Type some text and put a comment character in between.
- The text behing it still looks like not-comment text.
- Remove the comment character
- Now the text color changes from normal to comment

As I think this function might not yet be implemented,
I'm posting it here ...
I configured Winefish with a rather dark background.
But I haven't found a means to adapt the color of the
cursor to the background, so it is almost
undistinguishable from the background.
Is there a way to change it?
thanks in advance
I thought winefish could use a new logo, since the old one reminded me too much of comic sans :-) So I made a prototype-ish logo. 5 minutes of inkscape and a clipart from the open clipart directory (http://www.openclipart.org/detail/2151) later, this is the result: https://spideroak.com/share/IJZGC3I/pub/home/bram/Openbaar/Tekeningen/Winefish.png (the SVG can be found here: https://spideroak.com/share/IJZGC3I/pub/home/bram/Openbaar/Tekeningen/Winefish.svg )

Hi,
unlike the brace finder, an online spell checker will slow
down the winefish ;( I really don't know how to make it faster.
Instead should we may support a menu/function to check the
whole or a region of document and the wrong words will be
underlined ?

Could you think about the implementation of an on-line
spell-check control during the insertion of the text
(with a red underline for the wrong words)?
Thanks for your great tool!!

Installing Winefish requires teTeX as a dependency; but
I have a TeXLive installation, and I don't want to have
to install teTeX instead (or as well).
Is there any way to install Winefish so that it relies
upon TeXLive instead of teTeX?

Heading shortcuts - \subsection*{} issue
Original Submission:
I've come across an extremely minor bug that seems difficult to reproduce,
but thought I would mention it all the same.
Using version 1.3.3, I typically hit ctrl-alt-3 to create a subsection stub.
After working flawlessly for me hundreds of times, I started noticing that
even though the cursor would be place between the curly braces in
\subsection*{} and ready for me to type, my first keystroke would cause
the ending curly brace '}' to disappear. Restarting Winefish caused this
behavior to go away, and I haven't seen it happen again since.
This is hardly worth mentioning, but just thought you might like to be aware of it.
Brian

PPPS Being fairly new to Winefish, I also just noticed that the status
information indicates if the editor is in insert mode, so there already
is some very visible notification about the mode which
I should have seen before submitting this bug.
Thanks again and apologies for bothering you with a non-existent bug.
Brian 2007-May-17 22:25 muscat
PPS Come to think of it, I probably had accidentally hit the insert button and
restarting Winefish would have fixed this. You can go ahead and close this
bug as user error. ;) Having the cursor change from a vertical bar to an
underscore or something could become a feature request
for people who make the same mistake as me...
Thanks. 2007-May-17 22:16 muscat

When winefish supports plugins (some summer releases ;), I
will implement stuff like that! Currently, we fish need some
advance functions like brace finder ;)
Thank you very much!

A dialog box for creating bibliography entries would be
useful. A user could select the type of citation
(article, book, etc.) from a list, and fill in the
information needed for that type of citation. The
dialog box would allow the user to tab between fields;
without a dialog box to move quickly between fields,
doing lots of citation entries is very inefficient
because you have to move down a line or two and over a
couple characters.

Thank arunanirudhan, and I am sorry for any inconvenience. I pushed Winefish source code to GitHub some days ago. Please wait for my investigation.

many thanks for trying winefish.
below a very quick reply ( i have to offline right now)
* toolbars: i am the only developer of winefish. supporting
toolbars make me tedious. so i dropped it. I almost hate
toolbars.
* for the trouble ps2pdf: what is the version of your
winefish? the current version for ubuntu may be too old.
within winefish 1.3.2-RC2, there iss now problem. you may
add the psp2df tool like that: ps2pdf '%B.ps'
* autocompletion: within winefih-1.3.2-RC2 you may turn off
easily by turning off the menu "Document/AutoCompletin". For
global setting, put "0" value in the "AutoCompeltion" Field
for file type.
For further discussion could you use the forum:
http://winefish.berlios.de/forum
?
Thank you very much.
Goood luck!

Hi,
I'm an old DOS->Windows user who is trying to convert
to Linux (I'm
using Ubuntu 5.10 and teTeX as it comes out of the
box). One necessary
tool is a simple [La]TeX editor which I can use as a
TeX shell too.
Winefish appears to fit the bill, but I have run into
one real problem.
I also have a few requests that may or may not fit into
your plans for
Winefish.
The problem is that my choice of workflow from .tex
file to .pdf file is
TeX -> dvips -> ps2pdf
instead of directly using pdfTeX. (I have a huge number
of class notes
that are designed with this in mind. I'm also a sort of
dinosaur using
TeX instead of LaTeX.) However I have been unable to
figure out how to
integrate ps2pdf into Winefish. It won't work as a
command in the
*LaTeX*box since it is a script that calls other
scripts before calling
executing ghostscript (and Winefish freezes or crashes
when I call it,
perhaps it's the multiple error codes returned by the
multiple scripts)
and I can't directly call ghostscript because I don't
see anyway to
dynamically set the output file's name without a
calling script. It also
won't work as a Utility and Filter since the %B
variable only works in
*LaTeX*box commands.
Now for a couple of feature requests if I may.
1) Would it be possible to have a button bar for some
of the commands in
the External menu, with the image on the button face
from an external
image file (say assign a button for TeX with the image
lion.png located in
$HOME/.winefish, or /usr/share/winefish or some other
subdirectory)?
2) How can you turn off command completion?
Alternatively can the user
select a different words file without having separate
files that are
renamed before winefish is run. I can create scripts to
do this but then
I have to figure out how to integrate them into Gnome
for the right
click menus. I would like to see different sets of
commands when writing
plain TeX, when writing a plain TeX file with a package
like PiCTeX and
when writing a LaTeX file.
Thanks for the nice work you've done,
Richard Quint
