to clarify if someone copied our hls url we don't want them to be able to simply use that some where..

You can tell the tech to forward authorization credentials when you initialize your player. I'm not familiar with all of S3's authorization options but you may be able to configure it so that only your site can generate the signature necessary to authenticate the request (don't do it client-side, though!).
Another option is to use encrypted HLS and use your own infrastructure to host and authorize the key URLs. We don't have support for that just yet but it's in the works for the next version.
