Ultimate Windows Boot CD with ReactOS - Goal is to create a free (and mostly Open-Source) Boot CD (All-in-One-Solution) for system repair & maintenance that is based on ReactOS and is a replacement for the discontinued Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows (UBCD4Win).
The website forum is now open for business, so everyone can head over there and start making accounts and discussions: https://www.uwbcd.org/forum/
Developers will be granted FTP access for software collaboration as well as access to the developer discussions on the forum. Please get actively involved in the community before requesting developer status.
Outside of the forums, the rest of uwbcd.org will be used for file hosting various releases of the software as well as detailed project documentation/information.
I don't want to close up shop here at GitHub just yet, but let us know your thoughts on the planned direction as well as any suggestions or other feedback you might have.
We already know all of those tools work in a PXE environment and we just have to review the list and update it a bit. We should not include any new software that isn't on the list at the moment because we just need something we know works first, and then we can add, remove, update, etc., later, after we get it bootable and working with ReactOS and give people something they can demo. We should not get too excited yet and start adding things no one has tried or has documentation for because it will just drag out initial development and our initial demo/proof of concept. The first step should just be to mimic UBCD4Win, then we can start to change it later.
I should stress again, we need a working demo FIRST before we start thinking about all the cool stuff we want in the final. Right now a lot of people don't even think ReactOS has a ram disk and are not even interested to research further. If we can give them something to play with to prove their initial concerns are covered, that's all we need to start getting broader support.
The idea is to deliver the installers of the tools we use in ReactOS also on the CD/DVD that the user can install the tools after the fix on the fixed system.
Maybe on a 'MaxDVD-Edition' or something like that...
The first objective in this area is to be able to use the driver included in Windows XP, which would ensure ReactOS could support the file system.
So we should monitor this bugs, too.
As the driver included in Windows XP in proprietary, there is maybe a change to give the user a how-to how he can find them, copy them on a disc and we can maybe load them from the disc (or a USB Stick).
Tested on 0.4.8. live and install
Free ram drive programs that other bootcds use are ERAM-master and ImDisk
Tried installing both on reactos, their icon is in control panel, GUI works but no drives are created. Looks like their services are not started and ImDisk in cmd reports that its driver isn't loaded into kernel.
