docs.getutm.app's Issues

getting "Your PC/Device needs to be repaired" during the first boot after the Windows 10 installer has rebooted

I am targetting windows 10 and have tried the instructions from https://docs.getutm.app/guides/windows/

once the windows installer has finished and reboots the machine, I am getting the following screen

image

I have tried the process with 2 different Windows 10 images

and I am surprised to be getting the same symptom in both cases (down to the file name and error code)

this is on a macbook pro Intel, and for example the downloaded crystalquest image is named
19045.2965.230505-1139.22h2_release_svc_refresh_CLIENTCONSUMER_RET_x64FRE_en-us.iso

I feel like I'm doing something wrong, but can't seem to figure out what exactly..

Installing SPICE Guest Tools on Win XP Prof SP3 x86

I got troubles installing the SPICE Guest Tools on my win xp vm.
The installer loads just fine and states that it installed the program, but for example the shared clipboard does not work.
Also I can't install the WebDAV program from spice because "I don't have enough privilege". The manual from UTM states:

The tools support Windows XP or higher on x86_64 (excluding Windows XP), i386, and arm64 builds.

What does that mean? First it is stated that Windows XP is supported but after that, it isn't anymore? Or ist only available on the i386 or the "real" x86?

Even a complete reinstall of the vm didn't help.
Any help is much appreciated, I'm really beginning to get desperate. UTM is looks really promising but it just doesn't work...

Mounting virtiofs Shared Directories on macOS Guest using Apple Virtualization

Describe the issue

https://docs.getutm.app/guest-support/macos/

Instead of,

$ sudo mkdir [mount point]
$ sudo mount -t virtiofs share [mount point]

I am using the commands below, which does not require sudo and works fine.

$ mkdir -m 777 -p [mount point]
$ mount_virtiofs share [mount point]

Configuration

  • UTM Version: 4.3.5 (87)
  • macOS Version: 14.0 Beta (23A5312d)
  • Mac Chip (Intel, M1, ...): M1
  • Guest OS: macOS 14.0 Beta (23A5312d)

Installing x86_64 Multiarch

Hi,

I'm trying to get Rosetta running, with Ubuntu 22.04.

I had an issue with the apt sources.

Which might have been solved by adding the [arch=...] to the /etc/apt/sources.list.

I'm using the following file

#deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS _Jammy Jellyfish_ - Release arm64 (20221114)]/ jammy main restricted

I still get the Error

E: Failed to fetch http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/jammy-proposed/main/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: ...]

But was able to install and run an amd64 application:

sudo apt install rolldice:amd64

Any comments?

If this problem persists, most likely the set you are attempting to download was removed from Windows Update servers.

add full version on webpage

or integrate "Check for Updates" into the macos.

it is not immediately clear to users whether there is a newer version now available or not.

Documentation on macOS for mounting/unmounting

I think the following additions to the documentation are useful:

a) clarify where Terminal commands are run: In the guest machine

VirtioFS

{: .label .label-green } macOS 13+ When both the guest and host are running macOS 13 or higher, shared directories can be mounted as a network volume. You can mount the volume from Terminal in the guest machine:

$ mkdir -m 777 -p [mount point]
$ mount_virtiofs share [mount point]
[mount point] can be any valid path such as /Volumes/Share as an example.

b) add instructions how to unmount volume (via Terminal, in the Finder or otherwise)
