covid-19-us-state-policy-database's Introduction

COVID-19 US State Policy Database

The COVID-19 US State Policy Database tracks the dates when each US state implemented new social safety net, economic, and physical distancing policies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, combined with data on existing health and social policies and information on state characteristics. This database is developed and maintained by researchers at the Boston University School of Public Health, and is updated at least biweekly.

We are working quickly to go through state government websites to make the policy database as complete and accurate as possible in a rapidly changing policy context. If you use data on a given policy, we encourage you to triangulate based on additional sources of policy data and to review the source documentation to consider the coding decisions that are right for your work. Of course, please email us if you note a discrepancy so we can improve the database for everyone.

covid-19-us-state-policy-database's Issues

US State Policy Name Consistency

Hi team,

Thanks so much for your efforts and work consolidating this information and making it publicly available.

I do a check and a pull of the data every day to download the latest update. I noticed that sometimes the names of the files are inconsistent which makes it hard to automate this. In particular, sometimes you use a 2 digit month vs a 1 digit month. For example "08" vs "8" for August.

I was wondering if you would mind standardizing the naming convention to help those who look at this data on a regular basis?

Thanks again for the good work and what you do to help fight the spread of COVID!
Dusty

Shifted Data

Hi ! Thank you for all of your hard work tracking all of this data!

It looks like the data may have inadvertently gotten shifted for the last several states for some of the columns. For instance, Report deaths by race/ethnicity has dates in the column for the last 4 states.

Typo in 08/05 update

Thank you for the recent updates and the added variables! They are extremely useful!

In the 08-05 updated dataset, there is a typo. See in the figure, extra 12.
