git-stacks

Git utility for managing stacked branches - allowing developers to easily leverage smaller, dependent pull requests.

Usage/Examples

Create new "stack" named "feature_branch"

gs stack feature_branch

View the current stack

gs show

Rebase all stacks

gs sync

Create pull request from current stack into its parent

gs pr
  • requires gh cli to be installed and authenticated

Create pull requests for each stack

gs pr all
  • requires gh cli to be installed and authenticated

Only push branches if necessary

Currently the push-stack command always attempts to push or force push.

The remote and local refs should be compared to determine if a push is necessary.

Add helpful error messaging

Currently if most commands fail, we exit with a generic fatal log.

Context around what failed, and how to resolve the failure should be added where possible.

Add unit tests

Tests need to be added for all packages
