SMUM-Checkin

A cloud hosted checkin application (SPA) for Santa Maria Urban Ministries in San Jose, California.

The application is used at the intake desk to service client needs. It helps manage the services provided to low-income families & homeless individuals in the downtown community. These are some of the services managed by SMUM-Checkin:

Food Pantry
Clothing
Hygiene Supplies
Christmas Gifts for Children
Thanksgiving Turkeys

SMUM-Checkin manages client registration and facilitates the provision of available service by the volunteers. Since each service has a period of availability, minimum frequency, and target recipients, the software handles all of the calculations — offering the volunteer a simplified number of choices to offer the client. The interface reduces the complexity by displaying easy to understand service buttons. A push of a button logs the service details in the system and in future will print out a client receipt (see Future Development below).

Community Developed

This is an ongoing development project created and supported by volunteers. We are seeking to involve software developers from San Jose and the surrounding communities. We are offering young developers an outlet for volunteering to their local community by doing what they most enjoy doing.

High School Tech Volunteer Program

We are reaching out to regional high schools to build long-term relationships. We want partners help promote this Tech Volunteer Program to students and the broader community. We believe this is a great opportunity to introduce tech students to the idea of helping build tools for communities in need.

Future Development

Our goal is to have near continuous development of improvements and new features. A few of the planned features can be seen below.

Integrated Printer

A future version of SMUM-Checkin is intended to integrate with a receipt printer. This will reduce errors, improve security, and speed up the time it takes to help each client.

Service Programs

We hope to also integrate the management of service programs offered at SMUM. Santa Maria Urban Ministries offers a number of program including an After-school Homework Center, ABC Playtime Preschool, ESL Classes and more. We hope to integrate the registration and management into the system.

Community Communication

Another feature that we are considering adding is the ability to reach out to volunteers and clients via email and SMS. This would provide SMUM the means to inform stakeholders of changes in policies, programs, schedules, and special community events.

UI: Last served text inaccurate (says last served 14 days ago when I added services today)

Not allowing me to create a valid client

Unable to add valid dependant

FUTURE: Interface with the receipt printer

Add printer receipt functionality, using the printer API.

FUTURE: Add back link to starting screen

Currently no way to go back to the start screen upon logging in. Potentially navigate back to this screen upon clicking on the SMUM apple logo.

UI: After editing a client, it displays SAVED!, but doesn't toggle back to the view client menu

Unable to add dependants

Getting this error: newDependentRow is not defined

Need to disable tabs / verify if a form is in edit mode

When the client or other form in edit has not been saved, the user should not be able to change tabs without a warning.

Can add non USDA food multiple times in the same day

Unable to change passwords even with matching passwords, getting this error

UI: Displays "User not Authenticated" when signing in

The UI says that I am not authenticated, but then lets me into the SMUM system.

Bug: Cannot Generate Clients With Children Report

Seems to be an error in retrieval of data from the database.

FUTURE: Add reset password functionality

Interface with Cognito to allow users to reset their passwords via email.

UI: New Client form is not updating clients header

When the new client button is clicked the header should update to "(NEW CLIENT)"
As the Client Name is entered the values should be updated in the client header.
Check the behavior of the search results if a client was previously selected.

When entering in the wrong username/password error is thrown, but no dialogue box is displayed
When a field is not valid no error box is displayed as well

Bug: Added twelve dependents, but all not saved

Steps to reproduce:

Go to 8888
Add a dependent for each of the grade levels
Make the dependents one male and one female for each grade distribution
Press save

Similar to FristStep program.

When a client is loaded there should be a check to see if any dependents are 18 or older, a relationship of "Child" and a status of "Active".
If one exists the dependent should be set to "Inactive"
A pop message should notify the user of the change (name, age, new status)

Feature: Thanksgiving Registration / Distribution Reports

Create a new Distribution Reports section called "Thanksgiving Reports".
- List three reports in the pulldown
  - Turkey Distribution
  - Gift Card Distribution
  - Thanksgiving Counts
- Distribution reports are similar to "First Step" but without the backpack count column
- Count Report lists the number of Clients registered for Turkeys and Gift Cards
  - Total Registered
  - Total Distributed
  - Total No-Show
  - % Distribution

UI: No dialogue boxes saying why entry is invalid

Bug: Cannot click login after session has expired

Feature: Complete Settings Section

Finish existing Settings section
- Change DB to store settings
- Change hardcoded settings in the code to use settings in DB
Add "Dates Closed" to Admin section
- Allow the input of a date or range of dates as being closed
- Store the closed dates in the settings table
- Load dates into an array during app load
