fix mismatched quotes

british2american missed some ending quotes. convert these to doubles.

  • chapter 10: “queerness’
  • chapter 20: “Litera scripta manet’

italicize french

chapter 6: grand manque d'attention
chapter 31: mœurs
chapter 33: gomme onyx
chapter 35: bon dieu
chapter 40: extrément
chapter 40: oui, oui
chapter 41: mais voyons, voyons
chapter 41: bon dieu
chapter 41: sacré nom! mais oui

chapter 48: en secondes noces
chapter 48: ces invertis

page breaks before subchapters?

is there any way to improve subchapter handling? the two ereaders that I've tested tend to leave orphaned subchapter headings at the bottom of the page.

clean up lyrics/poetry

There are some lyrics (maybe some poems?) in a few places. Make sure they are structured correctly and have proper CSS.

  • chapter 32
  • chapter 38
  • chapter 39
  • chapter 45

cursèd -> cursed

chapter 34

but check whether it appears without an accent elsewhere? maybe this is a deliberate dialect indicator for the speaker

consider "La Maman" italics

in chapter 6, there is an unsemanticated <i>La Maman.</i> that I haven't decided what to do with. is it emphasis? the title of the section of a page? (not merely a non-English italization because there are no others in the scans)

After translating, it appears to be identifying the person speaking, similar to what appears in a play. I'm not sure it's worth trying to preserve the special formatting since the entire phrase is now italicized.

remove scare quotes from `"Bracelets de caoutchouc"`?

these are quoted in the source, but are being italicized for being a non-english phrase. do they still need the scare quotes?

if not, remove them. otherwise, add a lint ignore entry as it's mistaking the quoted term for a full phrase.

clean up `h4`s

Currently using h4 for the sub-chapter numbering. Either semanticate them properly or figure out if a different approach is needed.

correct a dash

chapter 44: stephen gordon-you know
should be an em dash

maybe "ice—vanilla?" should be "ice-vanilla?" in the same page?

clean up ellipses

There are a lot of . . . punctuation that should be replaced by . Maybe typogrify will do it, but make sure to check.

clean up signature

There is an in-line letter in chapter 52 that ends with a signature that is set in small caps. Figure out how to style and semanticate this.

italicize french song somehow?

chapter 32: "mais comment..."
is it correct to italicize the entire song, or is it different for some reason because it's in blockquote?
use css on a targeted selector? or just i tag?
