CPU Clock speed settings per single emulator/app/program

Hello, just recently managed to get my hands of the PocketGo and with the most recent CFW I noticed that the CPU speed per specific emulator can be changed from the stock 702. Trying to test it on (for example) the SNES emulator to see if some betterment in FPS/speed could be seen, i put it at 750.

Once i then select a game, the entire system seems to lock up, no buttons responds, which makes me need to do an hard shutdown via the on/off slider. Once i get back in, and put the CPU settings to stock (by pressing select) the game starts without any problems.

Invalid command spiflash-write

I am using the New Bittboy Rev 1 Custom Firmware Guide.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong but when I get to step 3.3-6. I get a message saying "Invalid command spiflash-write"

I am using a clean boot of Ubuntu 18.04 and read that these would help.
$ sudo apt install make
$ sudo apt-get install build-essential
$ sudo apt-get install pkg-config
$ sudo apt-get install libz-dev
$ sudo apt-get install libusb-1.0-0-dev

I still the same message "Invalid command spiflash-write"

Reduce firmware image size

I would like to use a 4GB micro SD card, and currently the image requires about 96MB more than a 4GB size. I was able to image my 8GB card and then trim the main partition to flash it.

It would suffice that you lower the size of the main partition from 3GB, to say 2 GB or even less. This would also make the download lighter ;-)

And you'd still be able to flash it to larger cards and size it up after flashing.

Quake crashes when entering water

I'm running the full version of Quake v1.09

You can see this bug in the lobby:

  1. Fall into the lava in front of the portal to hard
  2. Jump the water to the fourth episode

not working with CFW 3.6

Just got my new BittBoy. Strange.......it is not working with CFW 3.6. No display (black screen)

GBA and GBC rumble feature. (PocketGo)

Whatever I try do on PocketGo, I can't make the rumble work with Gbc or Gba roms, using Gambatte or GPSP (both old and new).
Tried different roms, from different sources, but no luck.
Is the feature tested and working or am I missing something?

Double key map in Chocolate Doom?

In Chocolate doom, both sidestep (strafe modifier) and shoot are both mapped to TA, and nothing is mapped to A. There is no page in the game’s menu to edit controls and I can’t find a relevant cfg file.

Edit: I’m using a BittBoy V3, firmware 3.6.

Bad KeyMap in menu with CFW3.9

I have a problem with this CFW, can not to use menu with normally, buttons are not mapped right, for example... right button suspend console, Start powers off, left doesnt works...

I want to try using anohter CFW but I have not find previous version.

I've tried playing super mario bros with the included fceux, and the animation is very choppy.
Is that a hardware limitation or is there anything that can be done with settings?

problem when expanding memory

I have problems when expanding memory of 32 gb of an SD card, since when doing the expansion with a disk management software, when re-inserting the card to the Bittboy, it does not start, please indicate how to solve this problem

turn led red when charge low

I can only assume what just happened. Mid-game, the device shut down. Since I had been playing for some time, it could be I ran out of juice. After that, it took about five boot cycles to be able to start the machine again (before that, the device froze during boot or displayed endless error messages). Some of the game saves before that (and there had been some, I was playing Wario Land 3 and that game saves regularly) were lost.
Maybe it was another of the crashes I've been having (#50), but it looked different.

In any case, please make use of the fact that we have a power led that can turn red to add the function that it will in fact turn red to signal a low charge to the user. Even better, make it three steps. E.g.: 10% charge, the led turns red, 5%, it flashes red and green, 2%, the device "presses" the R key so that the menu is called up, giving the user a chance to save before the device shuts down (it would also make it impossible to ignore the fact that the device needs to be plugged in)

image too big, no "main" partition

Hello,

I've just gotten my bittboy 3.5. I wanted to update to the latest software following this, but there was no "main" partition on the sd that was delivered. So I tried the installing procedure.
So I deleted all partitions on the SD card that was included, then formatted to FAT32.
Sadly, Disk Imager tells me the image I downloaded is too big. Not by much (90112 sectors, 88KB), but still. It also tells me there seems to be data on the extra space.
I tried anyway, and after the update I face the same issue as before, only the boot partition is visible to windows, the other three are only visible to the partition manager. Neither MiniTool Partition Wizard nor the windows disk manager nor EaseUS Partition Manager were able to give the partition a drive letter, it always reverts back to no letter and hence I can't write to it.
I went to the trouble and mounted the .img as a HDD and resized the last partition, the "main" one. Sadly, I don't know how to resize the .img itself, and I got the same warning. The new .img shows empty space after the "main" partition, but the problem stays. No letter, no file access.

I've tried with the sandisk that was delivered as well as with another 8GB I had lying around.

At this point I'm up for ideas.

  • can someone make a smaller .img?
  • does someone have a link to the previous version so I can try that?
  • any other ideas? (not "try a bigger sd", please, I'm doing that already but it takes ages to back it up first because it's a big one; I'll report when it's done)

background noise

hey all,

I don't know about you, but my Bittboy v3.5 gives off rather high-pitched noise pretty much as soon as the starting logo gets refreshed (it blinks, you'll know it when you see it).
Now I know this sounds like a hardware problem, but I as I said, it's not straight from the start. Also, it seems to vary, but I don't know with what. Charge maybe?
At some point I noticed it would disappear when the green "bitt boy" screen appeared, but not at the moment. Now it stays on even while playing :( Any ideas?

cleaning up the interface

Hi,

I bought this thing for one system only: Game Boy (and GBC but that's the same emulator).
Also, I want my kids to be able to use it, so less is more. Is there an easy way to get rid of all sections but emulators and get rid of all emulators except the few I want?

‘Select Scaler’ crashes gambatte_sdl

Choosing ‘Select Scaler’ in the GBC emulator crashes gambatte_sdl MOST of the time. Not every time, oddly enough. It seems if I interact with other menu options first, it may not crash.

Very noticeable screen tearing

There is a very noticeable screen tearing on every emulator and game. So it might be related to a common piece of software, libc or system level?

SoRR crashes on V3.6

Hi, I just upgraded to V3.6 on my V2.5 unit (clean flash of the image).

NxHope boot logo on V3 3.8

Hi,

I've flashed the 3.8 beta image for V3 on my V3 unit, and when booting I first see the NxHope image before the boot sequence text and the boot animation...

Is there any way to get rid of it ? Especially since it's not happening on a V2.5.

Screen tearing

Hi again.I have a problem about 60fps on all emulators. All emulators have tearing on the screen. Is there a solution to this?

Incorrect keymap

Hi, recently i have bought pocket go and i camt normally use because in every program and emulator randomly keymap. And randomly menu button. Why not reset button been ALWAYS as exit??? Why in some emulators a is b and b is a? And av is not working, but this is not critically. If you fix keymaps the system will be nice.

Video playback support?

First off, thank you for all your work on this custom firmware! It is really great to see this on the Bittboy!

Any chance we could some type of video playback support on the Bittboy? The gmenu2x does a decent job at text, mp3s and images already but no video. Maybe something like mplayer? Not sure how possible this is.

repeated crashes with gambatte

hi,

I'm having repeated crashes with gambatte and pokemon yellow. Any way to proceed to try and find out why and how to fix?

RTC?

Some games need a Real-Time-Clock. While the bittboy has a clock, unless I'm mistaken, it doesn't survive turning off. Doesn't it survive (keep running) a soft shutdown?

If there is no way to keep the clock running, an option to have the device ask for the time at each start could be an approach.

On a side-note, the current key mapping doesn't work well for setting the clock. you can only increase the value, not decrease it.

Incorrect key map in Liero?

In Liero, pressing TA correctly allows me to advance through the games menus, but once in game, pressing it causes the game to exit instead of shooting.

R for reboot is not working

Hello,

in the "shutdown properly" dialogue, there is a choice between Reboot (R), Cancel (B) or Poweroff (A).

(A) or (B) works, but (R) doesn't do anything.

Cave Story game doesn't save anymore

I've been playing some Cave Story and the experience was quite smooth. After the boss fight with Enraged Toroko, the game directs me in a new area where i get a save point. Here I try to save the game as usual but i notice the game doen't override the savefiles, nor it creates new one in the new slots. It says "save complete" but when you go check the save files the doen't change nor add to the list.

always on the lookout to make this thing as user friendly as possible, I've been looking at game saves vs saved states in the CFW's gambatte. So far, in-game saves seem to work fine (example: Super Mario Bros Deluxe, Pokemon Yellow), so that saved states would only be needed in games that don't save, like high-score keeping in tetris.

Is this correct or am I missing something? In-game saves are so much better than saved states for the kids.

i use latest 3.8 version L2 and R2 can't work they use same key map with B and TB
my bittboy is V2 version.
i replace zImage with another version L2 and R2 can work but speaker can not be turn off
when i use earphone.
can i get one zImage file support L2 R2 without earphone issue?

Issue with assigning a drive letter to main after flashing card

I have followed every tutorial to get my 32GB card setup correctly, but still have the same issue. I do not get a drive letter attached to the ‘main section’ after flashing the card and when I try to using minitool partition it does not apply it. I have used windisk imager and etcher both give me the same results. So my card only reads a few hundred mb not the 28GB I have as an expanded main section.

hide ugly command line screens

Hi,

as referenced here, this is a request to hide all the scrolling text appearing at boot or or when you load or quit a game.

At least during boot, my suggestion would be to hide it behind the "bitt boy" logo.

screen stays black at startup, needs cold boot

now and then, when turning the device on, the starting sound will chime, but the screen will stay off. One then needs to turn off and on again. It may be happening if the device went to sleep automatically
