Milestone 2: Peer Feedback for Jill Cates

1. App deployment

• The App has been deployed correctly and one can follow the link in the project repository

2. Landing Page

1. The landing page is good and provides the nightlife related noise complains summary succinctly

• What was done right according to me

  • the borough and time filters are a good way of filtering the visualizations by region and time period
  • The leaflet map works great based on just NYC maps
  • Color-coding instances by region helps in dissecting the visual information correctly

• What can be improved/ changed

  • Instead of month numbers you can use month names
  • For year slider change it to reflect discreet values of year as right now it looks as if it's aggregating
  • If possible get a minimal map for NYC as the current road-map camouflages the visualizations to some extent

3. Summary Page

• What was done right according to me

  • Providing noise complain numbers by various aspects of the data (times and region)

• What can be improved/ changed

  • You can combine a few plots in one or use a grid for showing multiple plots together
  • Right now the summary is conveyed all by the means of plots, perhaps you can add a text-box for quick insights based on the graphs

4. Aesthetics

• what can be Improved

• you can use shiny themes to make the overall app more appealing
• Add more colour coding in the plots if necessary, as currently, plots are monochrome in most places

5. usability

I think the app does a good job at giving a quick overview of noise complaints in NYC and could be useful for the end-user, I would just make the information more concise.

Overall, I think Jill''s app is amazing! I get right away what the visualization is about. I am very impressed with the use of map. I only have a few minor suggestions:

1. The sliders to filter the date can be more effective using drop down list. On first sight, I thought the slider are for selecting a range of date, instead of just a specific day
2. I really like the map, it would be great if there is a legend for the color of the pointers, because some audiences may not be familiar with the areas of NYC
3. To show the numbers of complains in a day, I think a line curve is more appropriate than a bar chart
4. The charts under the Summary tab are missing titles
