otago-linguistics-experiments's Issues

Distinguishing comma strings from comma delimiters in csv

Commas that are strings and part of the sentence are treated as delimiters. Example of output:

, Julie, dated, Adam, and, Andy,, but, she, married, Jeff

When viewing in excel, this of course displays as a blank cell where the comma might be. I can see three general alternatives.

  1. Perhaps the comma could be rendered in a different symbol in csv output?
  2. If this is non-trivial, we can simply document the fact. As I work with the output, I can assess how important it is to rescue the comma strings. The condition2 variable allows the researcher to distinguish Comma and No Comma sentences as well.
  3. Write to a different format, such as tab-delimited.

Tutorial

There needs to be a tutorial before the experiment is run. There should be a series of pages explaining how each of the buttons works and what to expect.

Question Response

Currently no response is given to the user and this needs to be fixed.

The specification indicates a congratulations or I am sorry type feedback should be given, but the exact form of the response is based on some ambiguous criteria and remains to be worked out.

Crash at end of SGRE experiment

At the very end of running a SGRE experiment, list a, the application crashes with a fatal error. It is at the final point where the participant has clicked the button on the last screen and one would be taken back to the startup with the experiments and number of records. Fatal error at this point before returning to the startup screen.

Crash on export data

Ran through the experiment 5 times so that 5 records are available. Upon selecting "export data" the following error message occurs: "The application Self Paced Reading Experiment (process nz.ac.otago.linguistics.spre) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Upon selecting "force close" the app is still running in the background, but still generates the same error when attempting to export.

Data Collection

Data Collection needs to be implemented. The format of the data collection remains to be worked out.

Condition 2 not reading

The Condition 2 field of data export is showing "Filler" for all items. There should be values such as "low attachment", "high attachment" "comma" and "nocomma".

Subject Profile Page

There needs to be a landing page where a little unidentifying informant is collected about the subject. The subject needs to be able to skip this page.

Kiosk Mode

The experiment needs to run in a kiosk mode. The ideal solution would for there to be a system permission that allows this functionality.

The best solution at the moment is putting the system bar into a decreased visibility mode. If we just target Android 3.x it is possible for root applications to disable the system bar while running and so behave as a kiosk application. The tablets will then need to be rooted. For Android 4.x it remains to be figured out how to do this but it may become an option.
