plusjakartasans's Issues

How to use the Lancip, Lurus & Lingkar Alternates?

The stylistic alternates are cool, but I can't find any guide to use them, i know this repository only contains the regular aka non display variant of the Plus Jakarta Sans.

But I've found the display font from this site. Can anybody guide me how to use the alternates?

I provide this snapshot from TokoType site
Thank you

Variable font not working

After installing the variable font file, only extra light is installed. Or is that how it's supposed to be and I'm being stupid?

Final Regular instance should be removed

PlusJakartaSans.glyphs contains two "Regular" instances, one at wght=400, one at wght=200; the second is wrong and is breaking the build. (Maybe it should have been a Variable Font export as in PlusJakartaSans-Italic.glyphs?)

Add character variants

Although the default stylistic sets are fantastic, it would be lovely if the alternative character styles are exposed as character variants (cvXX). This will enable me to mix and match the characters I want which may not be available in one stylistic set.

Letter Design Suggestion

The fixed version made it better, but I believe that the ascender of letter 't' is still not high enough.

I provided Product Sans, Manrope, Circular std., and fixed version of +Jakarta Sans for reference:
20201218_121710

The Ascender of Letter "t" Feels Unbalanced

The ascender of the lowercase letter "t" feels too low in relation to the cap height. I would bring it up a bit higher but not as high as the first public version.

I provided two visuals for reference:

20201214_083657
+Jakarta Bold (v 2.4)
20201214_083827
+JakartaDisplay Medium (v 1)

Thank you for making this font open source by the way! I think it's one of the most beautiful on the market.

Question or maybe a bug

Is a vertical line in the '$' symbol on some fonts (+Jakarta Sans Display Medium, Display Bold & Text Bold) not in the middle/not center?

I've sent an email, and the reply assume that was a bug.

Thank you.

Font isn't vertically centered (Some empty space remains at the top of the text)

Untitled

This may be a Mobile (Android) only issue. Notice the empty space at the top of the text in the buttons in the screenshot above. Can confirm this isn't an issue with other fonts.

Do note that the empty space isn't because of any paddings I have added to the TextView in Android.

Happy to test and provide more information if necessary.

Request for Lithuanian language support

Hi. Love your font! It would be my endgame font, however it is missing my native language characters. Do you plan on expanding character set? It would be a game changer to include characters like "ĄČĘĖĮŠŲŪŽ" from Lithuanian language! (Š & Ž already exist)

lithuanian characters

Amazing font, none the less!
Keep up the good work!

v2.7 (2.007) release - Roman variable is Italic

In the v2.7 (2.007) fonts released today (2023-05-19) the Roman variable font (PlusJakartaSans[wght].ttf) is actually the Italic.

The Italic font is also Italic, so there is no Roman variable.

File corrupted?

It keeps saying font invalid for me, is the file corrupted or something?

Font not showing up in Google Doc, Google Slides, etc

Hi!
I came across the font on Google Font and found it very nice. I was thinking of using it as my go-to font of the moment and tried to add it on a Google Doc, but the font does not appear, despite being publicly listed as a Google Font.
Any clue?
Many thanks in advance for your answer!
Kind regards,
Phil

Unicode Range

We've been supporting Plus Jakarta Sans at Fontsource for a while and I've been wondering if you could provide the values for the CSS unicode-range selector? That would be super useful for the project and users downstream.

Thanks!

Remove from Google Fonts: Font is riddled with so many issues with no sign of fixes or active development

The font does not deserve to be on Google Fonts. It doesn't get basics right and is riddled with so many bugs. There is no sign of any active development. There's just replies to the issues with no fixes at all.

The last update was in Nov 2021 i.e. 8 months ago. If you don't intend to maintain the fonts or at least fix so many basic issues that make this font unusable, remove them from Google Fonts and help all of us out not to waste time on checking out a bug ridden product.

Just look at issues where it doesn't even get some core/basic features right: Issues #9, #19, #25 #27, #28

v2.7 (2.007) release - no kerning in static fonts

In the v2.7 (2.007) fonts released today (2023-05-19) it appears that the static fonts have no kerning feature.
The variable fonts do have kerning, so it appears to affect only the static fonts.

i vs ä, ö and ü

There is a problem with the points: The point of the small i is a rectangle. But on the umlauts ä, ü and ö dots are shown. This representation should be uniform.

font weight medium not bold enoughtl

When loading medium font to a browser throught css, medium font in not bold enoughtl.
CSS:

@font-face {
    font-family: PlusJakartaSans;
    font-weight: 400;
    src: url("/fonts/PlusJakartaSans-Regular.woff2") format("woff2");
}
@font-face {
    font-family: PlusJakartaSans;
    font-weight: 700;
    src: url("/fonts/PlusJakartaSans-Bold.woff2") format("woff2");
}
@font-face {
    font-family: PlusJakartaSans;
    font-weight: 500;
    src: url("/fonts/PlusJakartaSans-Medium.woff2") format("woff2");
}

This is how it looks in the browser:
Screenshot 2021-02-22 at 10 57 23

Medium font is almost identical to regular.

Missing license

The 2.7 release zip is missing the license file found in the repository and previous releases. This should be always distributed in the package with the fonts.

Spacing between words

I have no understand about principles of font building so, feel free ignore this if it doesn't make any sense. I have noticed that while trying to use the font for real world I found the space between words a little inadequate
Frame 1000001958

In this image the fonts are as follows

  • Plus Jakarta
  • Circular Std
  • DM Sans

I think the others do a better job at the spacing. It seems like a 1.25x increase in the distance could do wonders in terms of readability.

some composite emojis does not render correctly

Hi there! I was trying some composite emojis like this one -> 🙅🏼‍♀ It renders in Firefox successfully but fails in Chromium based browsers and in Safari.

Is there something I am missing, or is it a bug or missing in font itself.

Extended Cyrillic

Hello,

Thanks for the awesome font.

When will be Extended Cyrillic version will come :) Any plan?

SemiBold static weight?

This is because, the SemiBold weight is implicit by source and variable font, but not implemented.

Remove tail from letter "æ"

Please remove the tail (middle bar) from Scandinavian letter "æ" to follow common practice and improve readability. Quick edit attached to illustrate. Thanks for the great work you've put into this font.

Any plan for Vietnamese support?

I found this font and it's a very good looking font. Do you have any plan to add Vietnamese support for it?

Thank you very much!
