This is because when the gear command is 64, the simulator put the gear into drive.
If it is 0, the simulator does not operate gear.

@hakuturu583 Thank you for your explanation.
But, official user_nodes.launch launches twist_filter.launch. In this launch file, twist_gate was used.

I think that gear of /vehicle_cmd is set to 0 in this case. Does user need to change the value of gear?

Yes, but it is easy to control simulated vehicle by putting 64 to the gear command, so we recommend to use this way.
