coronavirus-outbreak-app's Introduction

NOT MAINTAINED ANYMORE.

Latest Update - 1.6.4 - (17th of April 2020)

CoronaVirus Outbreak Tracker

Welcome to the official repository of Tiberiu Potec's (W_C_K_D) CoronaVirus Outbreak Tracker Android Application!

I opened this repository so that you can

  • download and install the latest official update of the application
  • submit issues/features on my Discord Server (recommended) or on this Github repo
  • This application was built from official sources like WHO & CDC.

    Features

    • access the main latest stats of COVID-19 Outbreak like number of cases, deaths and recoveries
    • access the COVID-19 SELF TEST, a diagnose system which will show an estimation on how probabily it is for a symptomatic user to have COVID-19 disease. (NOTE: The test is not meant to replace specialised medical advisory)
    • notice the evolution of the virus across Mainland China and the rest of the world
    • check out the latest and most popular headlines about Coronavirus Outbreak, share them with your friends
    • access the infection world map with detailed stats about each affected country
    • get user-location based stats and prevention advice
    • push-notifications about latest global/country/state statistics with selectable interval (15 mins, 30 mins etc.)
    • update the UI by changing background particle settings
    • in app update system

All of the above features can be observed into the screenshots above.

    Instalation

    1. Download the latest update from one of the links at the top of the page.
    2. You will end up with an .apk file which you'll have to tap in order to install it.
    3. Android will most likely tell you that you're installing an app from unknown sources and that you have to grant permissions to do that.
    4. Grand the required permissions and try installing it again, this time it will work.
    5. Open up the application and have fun!

    Application Permissions

Since you're not downloading the application from Google Play Store, you may want to know what permissions does this app require and when/where they are used, so here we go.

    • Internet Permission -> Pretty obvious, it's used to gather and parse the latest COVID-19 stats, news & data
    • Location Permission -> Disabled by default, users can enable it if they want to use location-based stats feature, since this uses, as you may expect, GPS Localization
    • Networkstate Permission -> Used to monitor whether the application is/isn't connected to the internet, so that it will know whether to update the stats or not

    That's all.

Why is the app closed source? Why don't you post the source code?

I have received these 2 questions a lot. The answer is that there are a lot of scammers out there in this period and I'm afraid they can modify the code to their benefit, so I won't be posting the source code, at least for now.

    The story behind

    suspension

Google pulled this application twice out of Google Play Store, stating that it lacks sensivity towards CoronaVirus, which is obviously not true, since all it does is showing some actual real and official data (from WHO.INT) about COVID-19.

As a result, I decided that instead of having a never-ending argue with Google Support & erasing more than 3 months of development (since I did everything by my own), I should post this application as it is here, without having to depend on Google.

The main purpose of this application was to help people have all the stats about CoronaVirus at a glance, on their android smartphones, but since Google did everything they could to stop this, I found myself with no other option than posting the application here, in hoping that the app will eventually fulfil its purpose.

This application has all the premium features activated, including an ad-free experience, so you can fully enjoy it.

    Support the development

As every major step in life takes a huge ammount of time, this application was no exception to the rule.

If you enjoy it and would like me to continue adding more features, please make sure you

    DONATE & SUPPORT THIS PROJECT

    Thank you!

    coronavirus-outbreak-app's Issues

    Rate calculations

The recovery rate and death rate - on the front page of the app - seem to be calculated using the active cases, not the total cases. I believe this to be an error as if someone is an active case I'd like to assume they have neither recovered nor died.

Due to the active cases being smaller than the total cases, this causes both rates to be higher than they should be.

    Text is cut off

I just found out about this app and it looks like at some places the text is cut off

"Confirmed" cases actually includes presumptive positive results

First of all, great app. Thank you so much for releasing this.

I made a ticket in the John's Hopkins repository as well but wanted you to know, and maybe you can make this distinction clearer for your app. I don't think they have distinct numbers right now between how many cases are "presumptive positive" and how many are actually federal "laboratory confirmed". But the use of the label "confirmed" is confusing. Maybe just add a note to make this clearer?
