The Jerome Lowenstein Consilience Donor Circle

Dr. Jerome Lowenstein, the press’s founding publisher, has been a practicing physician for over four decades as well as a professor at the New York University School of Medicine, where he initiated the Program for Humanistic Aspects of Medical Education. An author himself, he has inspired and shaped Bellevue Literary Press in countless ways.

Members of the Jerome Lowenstein Consilience Donor Circle are sustaining donors who are passionate about exceptional works of literary fiction and nonfiction. This annual membership includes invitations to exclusive events, complimentary books, and other rewards. For more information, click HERE [another link that takes you to the donation form]

Changes to Donation Form page:
As with the Support the Press page, remove praise quote and substitute JLC Donors Circle text, but this time with a listing of the tiers (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) and descriptions of privileges/perks at each level:

Donation Portal

We've realized that in addition to creating new email addresses, we'll also need to update the donation portal this summer (right now, the "Donate Now" button leads to an NYU page). Is this something you could handle for us, and would you recommend working with a certain money-paying engine (like PayPal)? How much would this cost for the one-time setup and any monthly/per donation fees?

Non-profit Google Account Support

@budparr adding some notes for our records of work done for BLPress.

Earlier this week Elana let me know that there Non-Profit account was suspended because the trial ran out. I contacted Google support through chat and got them to reactivate the account, and they said she should get a confirmation email in the coming days indicating that things are straightened out. I'm checking with Elana to see if she got that communication yet.

Migration away from WordPress

Complexities to consider for migration:

  • using WooCommerce to manage books (112 books currently)
  • using WooCommerce categories to organize
  • using tags to further categorize books
  • accepting donations directly onsite though Gravity Forms + Stripe
  • Donors have the ability to set up recurring donations
  • Donors have the ability to cover 3% Stripe fee
  • Authors custom post type which can be picked when creating a book entry
  • Reviews custom post type
  • Newsletter custom post type, but doesn't seem to be in use anymore
  • They are using an events calendar. Same one that Susan Issac's was using I believe.

ISBN update, and few other requests

  • Bellevue Literary Press has declared the hardcover edition of Talking Back, Talking Black out of print, but since that edition’s ISBN (9781942658207) was the one used to create the variable “product data” grouping, I’ve been unable to figure out how delete it in the inventory field and replace it with the paperback ISBN (9781942658580). Can you tell me what to do to update it so that paperback is the edition connecting to the buy buttons and the hardcover edition no longer appears on the title page?

I also have two other less time sensitive, wish list items, if they’re not too complicated.

  • Would it be possible to reorder the buy buttons for all title pages so that they appear in this order?
    Bookshop
    IndieBound
    Amazon
    Barnes & Noble

  • And could the “Books” page (https://blpress.org/books/) be a continuous scroll so that there’s no need to click the “Next” link to see the full list?

Adding Affiliate Links to our website

I'm checking in with you to see how we might go about adding affiliate links to our site. We used to be set up to do this, but have let it lapse.

Add SPF record for MyEmma

This has been added, but waiting to hear back from Elana that they are using their blpress.org domain to do the email sends. Will close when confirmed.

Bookshop.org affiliate link

We're interested in creating Bookshop.org affiliate links for our website. Could you please look into doing this and let me know how long you expect it will take?

You can use the following formula to create links to all of BLP’s titles:
http://bookshop.org/a/1269/primary edition ISBN

This, for instance, is our affiliate link for Pain Studies:
https://bookshop.org/a/1269/9781942658689

If you can also create a new buy button from the Bookshop logo (https://bookshop.org/) that will appear in the existing buy button grouping under B&N and above IndieBound, that would be much appreciated.

Fall Fete

We're preparing for another annual fundraiser, so it's time to update the website. Please find attached a document that outlines our plan for the donation form. Would you be able to update the fête form from last year accordingly and then add it, as well as the 3% processing fee form, to the draft BLP Fall Fête page? If you have any questions, please let me know, and thank you very much.

Change Barnes & Noble Buy Link

Barnes & Noble changed the link they use for search, so the link we use on sites for users to purchase BN books is now wrong.

Current link (that we generate with the ISBN):

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?EAN=9781635420128

correct link:

https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/?ean=9781635420128
