Currency Exchanger

A simple JavaScript interface that converts USD to any currency the user would like.

Description

This browser application allows users to input a dollar amount in USD and then select from a dropdown list of possible currencies to convert the value to. It will show the user the converted currency.

Setup/Installation Requirements

  • Clone this repository to your desktop
  • Install all packages with $ npm install
  • Build the project using webpack with $ npm run build
  • Start a development server with $ npm run start
  • Lint JS files in the src folder with $ npm run lint
  • Run tests with Jest using $ npm run test
  • Create a .env file using $ touch .env
  • Get an API key from https://www.exchangerate-api.com/
  • Input your email address and click the "Get Free Key" button.
  • You'll be prompted to create an account with your email, first name and a password. Agree to the terms of use and click "Get Started!"
  • At this point, you'll be able to access a dashboard that includes your API key as well as your remaining API calls for the month.
  • Put your API KEY into the .env file as: API_KEY={your api key}
  • Rebuild your project with $ npm run build
  • Enjoy!
