nextcloud-nas-guide's Issues

Bitlocker

It is theoretically possible to use Bitlocker as FDE (fulls disk encryption) for the external data SSD/HDD but this is currently not recommended since:

  1. The write performance on Linux is very bad (Aorimn/dislocker#138 (comment))
  2. It is not possible to create new Bitlocker encrypted Partitions on Linux (Aorimn/dislocker#18 and Aorimn/dislocker#199)
  3. It is currently not possible to mount more than one Bitlocker encrypted drive (source)

After all three things are fixed/implemented, Bitlocker could become the default for this guide.
(This was already planned in the beginning but Bitlocker has been substituted by Veracrypt because of those issues: c0d7341)
It should also get readded to the not-supported menu. But is of course incompatible to btrfs...

update to Ubuntu 22.04 jammy TODOs

required:
(two drives, mouse, keyboard, screen needed)

optionial:

  • test all remaining scripts in not-supported folder
  • test further options that are documented (especially backup ones)

about update script between major version

hi
The recommendation on the guide about upgrade between major version of NC is to avoid moving to Ex: 27.0.0
Actual i run the update script of my NC25 which moved correctly the instance to the latest 25 release ( ie: 25.0.7). After that the script ask me to re-run to upgrade to 27.0.0 which is certainty what i wanted .
By the way i was expecting that something like sudo bash /var/scripts/update.sh 26.0.2 would have helped me do point to point upgrade (25.0.7 -> 26.0.2) but this is not the case (no possible). is there anyway to achieve that easily ?

Thanks

make btrfs as default for backup drives?

It isn't worht the additional hassl because the backup tool already checks the backup integrity -> checksums aren't necessary and it complicates things because of linux permissions, adidtional scripts, and loose some compatibility with other OS's.
-> Currently not recommended.

More info about Nextclouds and Groupfolder in 2023

hi
i read your interested documentation about Nextcloud-Nas (N-Nas) and thanking for taking time to write all those explanations.

I would like to know if :

  • N-Nas solution can be used for an office that have 50 users.
  • if improvement have now been done on Groupfolder App which could let it work perfectly (with minor issue)
    Thanks

veracrypt with btrfs

write performance is really bad in my test:
max 40MB/s write speed on an SSD but nearly unlimited read performance luckily
-> not recommended for now
if it gets better, could be readded to the not-supported menu and maybe become the default

User Deletion fails during initial Nextcloud Setup.

After webadmin user/pass is created, installer spits an error saying "ncadmin user cannot be deleted" and the script reruns on every subsequent boot. This occurs on multiple fresh installs of Ubuntu Server.

Need more understanting with External Drive

hi
Please i need to understand in your guide how the user Data (datadirectory) is mapped to the external drive prepared with BTFRS.

I see no information about that in the guide unless i missed it

Thanks
