Thank you for your thorough reports @strowger.
As you might have noticed, hovering over some sections of the windows of the Office suite does raise them while this will not work on others. I have not tried to reverse-engineer them, but I guess it's due to a mix of non-native elements with native wrappers such as windows and panels. The iWork suite being, for example, fully native doesn't suffer those glitches. I'm not trying to convince you to switch to iWork instead 😊 as an auto-raise implementation should be able to cope even with those non-native parts. I'm working on it.

Oh now you've explained, the behaviour makes sense.
Mouse over cells of spreadsheet: no autoraise (every time)
Mouse over menu/ribbon: autorate (every time)
Unfortunately I am manacled to the Microsoft Office suite, but this information (that other parts of the window will work) is useful.
Thank you for the app (my money is ready as soon as it goes on sale...) and the quick response to the bug reports.

You're welcome and thank you for the compliment!
Your attitude is refreshing, and I enjoy working with users who understand the uncertainties surrounding development.
