Account object’s standard Website field as well as Lead object’s standard Email field are configured as required fields in the system. The SDR team uses Leads to manage all prospects of new and existing customers (accounts), and converts them to Contacts when qualification criteria is met.

Since often SDRs are reaching out to Leads from direct customers of Company X, for better existing customers’ lead tracking and holistic account view, SDR manager asked the CRM development team to implement a solution that would enable SDRs to link Lead records to existing customer Accounts. Based on the requirement, the CRM specialist has created a custom Account lookup field on Lead and added Lead related list to Account view. This fulfilled the SDR team’s needs.

Since the Field Marketing team is often uploading .csv files containing multiple leads from existing customer companies, SDR team is now struggling to manually go through newly uploaded Leads and link them to existing Account records. As a CRM Engineer you are given a task to develop a process that would match the incoming Leads to the existing Accounts.

Mapping based on Lead's Email domain vs. Account's Website domain is prefered. Let's assume that the Website field on Account is unique, meaning there are no accounts in the system with the exact same Website domain.
