Sometimes the video is being shared using the Youtu.be shortening service. I understand that it is impossible to filter out all shortening services, but this one has a format that is always dependent on the video id in format youtu.be/$id, so it should be possible.
So. I do not know why this addon causes this issue, but when it is activated I can't use the chat on twitch.tv/.
I can click the chatfield and can type something, but when i hit "enter" or the "chat" button nothing happens.
Firefox 30.0
AlienTube 1.2.3.1
Ubuntu 12.04
There is no visible response from attempting to load comments from a subreddit in the dropdown list.
In the inspector, they're just li elements - no button or link.
There is no change in class name either (while the visible tabs, which work properly, have .active added when appropriate).
Video of problem: http://www.mediafire.com/watch/fjuaqdvvjgjf6rw/alientube_tabs.webm
Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7dS8YWqymo#t=37
Should find this reddit discussion: http://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/288lij/best_knife_commercial_ive_ever_seen/
I know it might won't be possible to search for all reddit links that use times, but the extension could also search for the current URL the user is on.
The extension sometimes doesn't load (normal G+ comments show up) and requires a site refresh.
Hi.
So, I got updated to AlienTube 2.0, and it just completely stopped working. Tried changing the options, but they don't even save and revert back to what I had before.
Hey,
I have a problem with AlienTube. As the title implies, whenever I scroll down to see the reddit comments, the page freezes for ~30 seconds, and I can't scroll, use the Youtube player's controls, or do anything beside watching the video itself.
I'm using version 1.2.4, and the site works perfectly fine when disabling the extension.
As you can see from this screenshot: http://snag.gy/J7Pw4.jpg
..there are 2 problems with the webpage (in Firefox):
Also, 2 more interaction problems:
And last thing: consider getting a DogeCoin donate button: /r/DogeCoin community loves throwing money at people.
If people submit a link using a long YouTube url which contains information such as referrers, the wrong video can be matched in other cases.
Specifically if you use the annotation on video one to view video two, video one's ID is in video two's url. Then when searching for the ID of video one, wrong threads are returned.
Example found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNUM-1xwDU4
If you look at the reddit comments below you see they are for a thread titled "Pulling Thing From People's Hair" Which is obviously wrong.
At the end of the video (2:43) there is an annotation that links to this video, sending you to this link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVDQ8_MT7dA&src_vid=LNUM-1xwDU4&feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_4246517269
"LNUM-1xwDU4" features in both urls, as src_vid in the second.
As this was used to submit the video to reddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/23pygb/pulling_things_from_peoples_hair/
AlienTube searches for LNUM-1xwDU4, finds it in the url (but in the wrong place) and returns that thread.
Don't remove the tab for the original G+ comments. On certain videos I want to read the G+ comments and on other videos (If the comments are disabled for example) I want to see it on reddit.
Removing the G+ comments entirely is annoying and forces me to disable this extension every time I want to read them.
Steps to reproduce:
Expected result:
The clicked subreddit is selected.
Actual result:
The subreddit name doesn't appear to be interactive.
I manually installed 0.9.2 firefox extension and it does not show up G+ icon to switch to youtube comments. So current firefox version does not have ability to switch to youtube comments.
If you try AlienTube in Firefox on this fabulous video, you can see that the last tab in the subreddit tab bar is on a new line. (And I believe that it isn't supposed to be there.)
Amazing addon, by the way. ๐
I watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o6GnbQm47M and the comments section showed 5 subreddits; Videos, Cringe, Worldnews, Politics and gaming. None of them was related to the video
In this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivT-I-yxtdY , in the sochi subreddit, there's a post by autowikibot using the control character U+0009 ($ # 0009 ; in HTML), but it gets turned into text.
I thought it might have been a bug in snuownd, but I tested that and it parses it fine.
Support the old Opera that used the Presto rendering engine.
Allow users to change the treshold for hiding comments.
If you click the downvote button really quickly, it jumps to ever increasing or decreasing numbers before quickly fixing itself
Example here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGfP0g3oj3A in the GuiltyPleasureMusic subreddit, just showing &
instead of &
.
(Edited, GitHub's parser was "fixing" it)
Could you make it so that it automatically goes to the G+ comments instead of the reddit comments as an options in the options menu? Thanks
Hi,
I'm trying to use AlienTube (Beta) 1.0 on Firefox 22.0, but unfortunately it doesn't appear to be working, failing with the error "SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected end of data":
This error is encountered on all YouTube videos; the specific one above was video id B-Wd-Q3F8KM as I knew it had several appearances on Reddit.
This error was first encountered on my regular profile which has tons of extensions enabled; however, the problem persists even when using a completely blank profile that was just created. (The screenshot above was taken after creating a new profile, installing AlienTube and Screengrab (fix version) 0.97.25c, and using Screengrab to save the visible portion of the window after navigating to the above-linked video. (The problem still existed before installing Screengrab, so the presence of that extension wasn't causing the issue.)
I would have tried sniffing the connection, but it seems AlienTube uses HTTPS to communicate with Reddit, so I can't sniff it. I can use HttpFox 0.8.14 to see that a connection was made, but the response is not cached (and trying to force it to cache doesn't work), so I cannot see the return response. I can show the headers given by HttpFox, however:

As with everything else, that was taken on my blank profile, which has only AlienTube and HttpFox on it. (I removed Screengrab so that it couldn't affect the results.)
I can't think of any more diagnostic information to include. I suspect this is probably an issue with using an older version of Firefox since I can't see anybody else having this problem, and it still happens even on a blank profile. If so, will you attempt to fix it for older Firefox versions?
Thank you!
The button for switching to Google+ comments doesn't appear sometimes. It seems like it doesn't appear when there aren't any posts or Google+ comments.
There should be a way to submit a video to reddit directly from the comment section instead of using the share tab in the description (which opens a new window and doesn't refresh the comment section)
I am unable to switch to the G+ comments section unless at least one link has been submitted to any subreddit. Otherwise, I am completely unable to select the G+ comments (the button does not appear). I'm running this on Chrome for Mac, OS X 10.7.5 and Chrome 34.0.1847.116.
I have read the faq that to remove this error you would have to whitelist reddit.com. It does not seem to fix the problem. With so many ads on youtube, this would be a deal breaker.
Any work around?
This is the extension :
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock/gighmmpiobklfepjocnamgkkbiglidom
Thanks!
Make users able to create comments.
Show less button in the About section of videos is missing with the extension enabled.
Make users able to downvote and upvote the post as well as individual comments.
If you play playlist, it works fine for first video, but when you jump to another video, extension does not seem to be loading. However, if you refresh page, it loads fine again, until you go to another video in playlist...
The alientube window still appears under my videos, but I am unable to vote/comment/etc. I am signed into reddit, and I tried uninstalling privacy badger just in case, but neither worked. Is it possible that AlienTube is unable to access the cookie or whataver it runs off of for sign ins? Thanks!
YouTube's had a feature for a couple of months now where it loads new pages using AJAX instead of traditional page loading. When a link is clicked and a new video is loaded via AJAX, the comments for the old video remain and the comments for the new video do not appear.
I believe this could be easily fixed if you monitor the popstate (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Reference/Events/popstate) event, as the YouTube AJAX page loads rely on the History API to keep things tidy.
I believe this is a fairly significant bug and I'd love to see it fixed.
Chrome Version 32.0.1700.102 m
Alientube 1.2.3
The permalink from alientube looks like http://www.reddit.com/cjkqyk2 which doesn't work, the proper permalink looks like http://www.reddit.com/r/Yogscast/comments/2d00tv/minecraft_hardcore_skyblock_part_41_cinque/cjkqyk2
There should be a tab with the subreddit tabs that show the youtube comments.
There should be a way to check original YouTube comments without disabling the extension (useful for content creators)
Using the firefox version
Instead of blacking out the spoiler text it changes it to a link to www.youtube.com/spoiler
See an example here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFsiYEKKFC8
http://www.reddit.com/r/TwoBestFriendsPlay/comments/1xju3g/best_friends_play_the_wolf_among_us_part_4/
In cases where the video has not been submitted to Reddit or the submission has no or inadequate comments, I find myself wanting to try the YouTube comments, and disabling the add-on and refreshing the page can be tedious. I would like to see a button that allows me to quickly switch to the legacy comments on the fly.
Everytime I try to download AlienTube I get this message: An error has occurred
net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT
When there are more tabs than a single row can hold, overflow the lowest scoring ones into a dropdown.
Support the new Opera that used the Blink rendering engine and Chromium extension api.
Hey, I absolutely adore this extension but there's just a small issue. I'm using FF Nightly (version 29) and everything seems to work as it should except, when I click on the G+ Icon for the first time it just goes to a blank comments list.
Then, If I click back to a reddit tab, and go back and click the G+ Icon a SECOND time it loads the youtube comments up fine. This happens for every single video, so it is not an isolated incident, the G+ comments will never load on the first click.
Add support for Firefox
there is no G+ fallback option on the "No posts found" error message.
This shows up on some videos. I have no idea why.
