giraffe's Issues

Enhancement: Reload the loaded calendar on app start

Absent a regular update feature, it might be a good idea to have the calendar load when the app is started. If there's no URL to load, the app could then take them to the URL screen to enter a calendar URL. If the problem is that there's no network instead and we already have a calendar that just needs updating, the app could show the old version of the calendar. Otherwise, the app shows an error.

The logic pseudocode for this would be something like the following:

OnAppStart() {
if (URL != null} {
if(loadCalendar() != null) {
ShowNewCalendar();
}
else if (loadCalendar() == null && OldCalendar != null) {
ShowOldCalendar();
}
else {
Error("Could not load calendar.");
}
}
else {
LoadSettingsScreen();
}
}

Add support for FOSSASIA's open event JSON format

Currently the app displays the data parsed from iCal format. Although it is great but FOSSASIA's JSON format provides more information.
We could modify the app to enable the support for it too along with normal iCal data.

Here are some samples in open event format. https://github.com/fossasia/open-event

An organiser can easily create the event from the server and then import the data. It also provides alternative iCal link.

Feature Request: Add iCal URL via QR code

It would be nice if one didn't have to type in the URL to the iCal feed manually. While the intent filter for iCal is currently broken, the app can get its own URL by calling the barcode scanner directly via an Intent. Ideally, there would be a button on the URL loading activity that launches the Barcode Scanner. The Barcode Scanner then reads a URL from a QR code and reports rack, where the app can pull a URL out of the Intent bundle and use that as the new URL.

The link for the Intent documentation for ZXing (by far the most popular barcode scanner app) is here: http://zxing.org/w/docs/javadoc/index.html

Feature Request: License the code to allow code contribution

Currently, you have a git repository, but no clear license governing the code. As such, copyright law dictates that the code be considered proprietary, which forbids others from contributing to the code base, fixing bugs, and adding new features. I myself am more than willing to help add some of the features I have requested, but cannot as long as the license remains unclear.

You put the code in a public git repository, which leads me to assume that your intention is to license the code with a license that will allow this; if so, I would appreciate you making this clear so that others know what the rules are for using this code. Thank you.
