darkcroc-android-theme's Introduction

DarkCroc Android Theme

A dark theme targeting Android 9.0, freely adapting the default material dark colors.

For information on supported platforms, available variants and how to report bugs, see here.

The new Default Dark

Consider this as the successor of my Default Dark theme series.

With the release of Android 9.0, I wanted to do a fresh start for following reasons:

  • It became increasingly difficult to keep support for old platforms (Default Dark was initially created for Android 5 / Lollipop), as Substratum doesn't allow a smart overlay selection based on Android version, so I had to provide variants for user selection (ugh, user interaction required!) per app (ugh, more user interaction required!)
  • Without the ambition to create a "default" dark theme, I'm more free in theming decisions
  • I no longer feel the need to recreate the default Android look in dark (read: I don't really like the Android Pie look)
  • Many custom ROMs now have dark themes already included, so there's not that much of a need for a "default" dark theme (except maybe stock ROM users, which I was never actually targetting with my themes)

What about Android 10 and later?

Android 10 and later won't be supported, but parts of the theme might still be applicable. Check here for a more detailed explanation.

darkcroc-android-theme's Issues

Support missing for AOSP Email

I just moved from "Default Dark Theme..." to "DarkCroc-Android..." because I upgraded my phone from Nougat to Pie. Unfortunately this theme does not seem to have support for the AOSP email app. Any plans to change that in the future? It would be terrific to keep this excellent theme on top of the line! Thanks, Baer

Notifications unreadable

Hello,

When applying your theme with all the colors set to black, my notifications become unreadable. It seems that your theme does not change the font color and black letters on a black background is, of course, not readable at all.

Pixel-like colours

Hi, do you think you could add colours like in Pixel phones, Google Apps and in AOSP?

  • pale blue used in Google apps dark mode: 8AB4F8
  • dark blue also used there: 2EC9C1
  • normal Pixel blue: 1A73E8
  • AOSP teal: 258982
It would be nice for consistent look with apps that don't use system colours
