This may be not about cdylibs in general, but my specific setup, e.g. I'm using PyO3 and that likely allows undefined symbols because it's creating a Python extension that expects to be dlopen()
ed.

Oh, the solution is obvious: just do a grep as above with nm/readelf
on the shared library, if it finds something then that means we might panic in place we shouldn't. Closing this, but maybe it'll be helpful for someone who has the same issue.
