Motivation

Motivation is a Mac OS X screen saver inspired by Alex MacCaw's Motivation Chrome Extension. From Alex:

…screen with a counter showing your age incrementing in real time… It’s a simple tool, but it helps me think about perspective a bit more, which in turn helps me optimize my time.

You can configure your age once you picked it in Screen Saver Preferences in System Preferences.

Installation

Download the latest release. Unzip and double-click.

Building

Xcode 7.0 beta 5 is required to build Motivation since it's written in Swift 2.

Shaking Edges

Problem

The right digit changes quickly between variable width numbers. This causes the entire label to shake left and right.

Potential Solutions

  1. Make the label left justified, or
  2. Specify a monospace font

set it as desktop wallpaper

Can we set it desktop wallpaper?

I tried
/System/Library/CoreServices/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background &

I can't see windows/docks only the timer after that.

Variable decimal spaces?

The last digit is going so fast it's kind of stressing me out :) A setting for controlling how many decimal places to show would be awesome!

Time of birth

Would be cool if we could specify the exact time we were born, rather than just the date. This would give a more accurate representation of the time I'm wasting.

Not Working on macOS Mojave

The latest release of macOS Mojave rendered this app unusable for the Mac.

Public Beta 3 - v.10.14
Build: 18A336e

In previous versions the screen saver would start but you couldn't change settings now it's totally unusable.
#6 by @valeriyvan might fix this issue.

Not working on latest El Capitan

“You cannot use the Motivation screen saver on this version of OS X.”

I’m running the latest public El Capitan…😬 The Countdown screensaver is fine, but not Motivation.
