email7.em attachments are corrupted.

Original issue reported on code.google.com by [email protected] on 25 Sep 2009 at 5:06

Attachment encoding type can be incorrect.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Convert an email with a text attachment. I'm not sure how you generate such
an email, but the IncrediMail message store I'm working with has many of these.
Some attachments are PDF files, other are straight text. I believe the
originating email client was MS Outlook 11 (probably Office 2003).
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
.eml file with base64 encoded attachment, and Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
or
.eml file with unencoded attachment, and Content-Transfer-Encoding:
quoted-printable

Attachments are always base64 encoded, however the original email attachment
may have used a different encoding type. The content encoding tag is not
updated.

Please provide any additional information below.

I edited a converted .eml file and manually changed the encoding type to
base64. The resulting file imported fine, and I was able to work with the
attachment.

Error is in incredimail_convert.c, function insert_attachments()
Line 202 encodes the attachment file as base64. However, there is no code to
change the Content-Transfer-Encoding type.
I suggest either checking the original encoding type, and not base64 encoding
the attachment unless specified, or always changing the
Content-Transfer-Encoding type to base64.

If I can set up a development environment, I may take a shot at fixing this
myself.

Latest Incredimail release does not create folders and therefore I can't get my inbox items

Hi, Not sure if this is operator error but the latest version of incredimail does not seem to create folders in the same way as older releases.

I just installed latest update from website and when I create a new folder there is no corresponding IMH / IMM file created under the message store folder.

I just ran an export on my message store (after also selecting the right Attachments folder) and all it exports are historical emails. Noting new in the Inbox is exported and, to test the theory out, I created a new folder called zzTest and moved some emails into it from within the app. There was no corresponding zzTest.imh or zzTest.imm files created and therefore no obvious way for me to identify the single folder for export.

Unfortunately I was doing this on a friends machine that I no longer have access to however I do still have is IM folder structure on my computer (but dont fancy installing incredimail unless I really have to for obvious reasons).

Has someting fundementally changed or have I missed someting. FYI I am no expert in incredimail. I was simply helping (trying to help) him migrate away from it to a proper mail program that has simple features like "export" built in (as I am sure may people who try your software try to do). I will happily hep with diagnostics as much as I can though.

Thanks
Paul

Version 0.53 crashes

My observations:
1. The program starts without problmes
2. Program crashes when:
- uplading the path to the directory or to the .imm file
- after pressing the Convert button
- in the middle of the conversion.

OS: I tied with Windows 7 and Windows XP. The same problem in both versions.

Program Version: 0.53

After many crashes of the 0.53 version, I installed the old one, and I manage
to recover all my emails with the attachments!!!
The program RULEZ!!! I couldn't find anything else that could recover my
emails. Great Job!!!

Export directory

After successfully exporting a single directory I cannot find the exported
directory anywhere. I am using windows 7 with all updates.

0.5 isn't working for me

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. choose incredimail message store
2. choose incredimail attachment store
3. click on convert

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The expected output is that the program will begin converting the inbox.imm
database to .eml files, putting them in a newly created folder called
'inbox'. Instead, nothing happens at all. On clicking the 'convert' button,
the program immediately goes to '0 of 0 DONE!' and nothing has been
converted. It's as if it immediately skips the process of converting the
emails and jumps straight to the 'DONE!' dialog.

What version of the product are you using?
0.5

Please provide any additional information below.
Using Windows XP with incredimail 2. I've tried both converting a single
database and converting a directory but nothing happens in either case. I
think the program creates the output folders but doesn't actually do the
conversion. The email count tracker stays at '0' and the progress bar
doesn't activate. It definitely skips the whole conversion process. I've
made sure the antivirus is disabled also, though i don't think that should
affect it. Is there some kind of error log i can find and send through? I
had 0.3 installed once before and i'm wondering whether there's any
registry entries leftover from that installation that might be affecting my
installation of 0.5?

Improvements and corrections for version 0.5

Version 0.5 has problems in the email_count function with Incredimail 2
databases. Also, it would be very simple to automatically include the
attachment directory when either the initial directory or database file is
selected.

Problem with complete Directory Export

It's so far the best product I found for that purpose (getting rid of IM).
Although I dont have any Problem exporting a single Database, I can't make it
work to export a complete directory :-(

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. I fill in the directory (IDENTITY\MessageStore)
2. Attachements Directory is completed automatically and correct
3. IM Database Information is not filled in though

As written in another Issue, I moved the deleted folder and renamed all
non-char names befor starting it.

Instantly I get a Win Error Message, telling me Reynard IM Converter.exe is no
longer working...

This is ... using 0.53

Thanks Chris

Memory Problems

It has been noticed that while converting the memory and handles constantly
increasing. There is probably a problem with closing a handle.

Deleted messages are included in the export

The converter will export all the messages (included all the deleted ones)
in an Incredimail database.

There could be a check box or something in the converter that gives the
user the option to include the deleted messages or not.

Incredimail does not convert some databases

The latest version 0.2 has a bug in which the offsets are not correctly
being used. The result is garbage eml conversions.

Note to developer: The offset bytes is right after the size bytes in the
header file (.imh).
