ltss's Issues

Fill 2 Member-at-Large positions

The section previous had two member-at-large positions. Once we get organized, we can look at current membership lists and see who might be good to approach

LTSS twitter account

We could start a twitter account to highlight papers studying temporal dynamics and long-term data?

Longterm data page to website

Currently we have a page that talks about LTREBs. We talked about making a page that pointed to a google doc where people coud enter info about publicly available long-term data that they knew about. Steps for this:

  • Decide on columns for google doc
  • Create google doc
  • Create webpage on long-term studies website pointing to google doc

LTTS agenda for 2018-2019 year

Hi All,

Here are our priorities for the upcoming year, as agreed on at our August 6, 2018 meeting:

  1. Membership drive (ways to make the section more useful and relevant and therefore re-engage existing members and then start to expand):
    a. Survey existing members about what they would like the section to do. Ask, what activities would be helpful? For example, workshops on data analysis, project management, data management?
    b. Survey existing members to potentially collect a group of graduate students to highlight interesting and useful papers on the twitter feed on a regular basis. Alternatively, we could start with some of our own graduate students and/or those in our departments.

  2. Submit a proposal for an Inspire session for ESA 2019 (is everyone planning to go given issues?). Kendi is starting to work on this and will lead.

  3. Start working to organize an award for the best paper produced by section members in the previous year, to be awarded at our annual mixer at the ESA meeting. One approach would be to recruit a group of postdocs as a committee (other ideas?).

This year or next....

  1. Apply for a small "Long Range Planning" grant so that we can commision a logo and potentially make some swag for the ESA meeting 2019.

What did I miss?

:) Kendi

More work on updating the website, September 2019

Migration of website

  1. We are in the last block of sections to be migrated. This might happen in October.
  2. To prepare we can look at current content, what do we want to drag over or not.

Banner

  1. Needs to be 3:1 (1500:500). Two photos showing change? Include people?
  2. Sarah and Morgan have some leads to follow up.

Collection of data sets

  1. Are there non google options to link to data sets? ESA may have a version but we will go ahead with our own.

Funding sources

  1. ESA will have a list of funding sources sometime. We will go ahead with our own version for now

Twitter Feed

  1. It can be done. We can add our twitter feed to our website.
  2. Use twitter feed for material that will date, including jobs

Code of conduct

  1. Microbial Ecology page has a code of conduct that we should use to create our own.

Resource section (and yearly award)

  1. In the resources section, include material that will not change. Every year there is a travel award. Submit your application on this date by doing....
  2. We will create a google form to standardize the applications and make them easier to process.

TO DOs before next meeting (October)

  1. Kendi. Find out if we can use funds to offer a prize for best logo
  2. Morgan. COntinue to communicate with ESA about website.
Find out if there are existing ways to contact all members (e.g. resources that ESA has).
    Contact existing members
  3. Sarah. Screen grab three websites she liked and use ppt to add notes.
  4. Christie. Look into the google form for travel award. Award will be automatic.

To talk about in October

  1. Follow up list above
  2. Think about working on a list of annual dates for ourselves that we need to adhere to (e.g. prepare for award, ESA session proposals for annual meeting, membership drive every Nov-Dec because membership renewals happen in Jan). Put this up on the Github page.
  3. Idea for Ignite session for ESA2020. Insect declines. Set up as controversial. Connect to project Christie is part of. When is the proposal due?
